Or..............unlike some of us that played the game early, they did not grab any copies of GCS #1 pre-announcement and were left trying to find cheaper alternates to pump.
I started buying GCS a couple of years ago (or four?) when demand was ramping up at local shows, but I wish I had loaded up on more copies of #1. I think I only have a handful left.
BINGO!!!! The same people who pumped Gotham City Sirens #1 3 to 4 years ago didn't have anymore copies and needed a cheaper alternative to pump. (Just do a search and you will find it)
I wish they would just accept GCS 1 as the 1st appearance and move on. The funny part is this will happen again with another book they've pumped to early and are left within no copies only to pump a cheaper alternative later.
I will let the market or collecting community decide what is the 1st appearance, I just post the information.
Agreed, again, read the explanation as to why Tec is relevant. GCS is a series title. They don't even say it in the story.
Stop looking for a fight you are going to lose. I never once said Detective Comics 850 or any other book was not important. I said the books are weak on evidence as 1st appearance. I never told anyone not to get it.

This is getting ridiculous. I'm surprised no one said Batman Adventures 12 as the 1st appearance of Gotham City Sirens since they all appear in a comic together for the 1st time.
No, it's not the 1st appearance.
What is ridiculous? The market went after Tec 850. If the market has deemed that a book to have then an earlier book which features the three together as a team should also be considered a book to have, no?
Nobody is talking about BA 12 because they aren't a team in that book; they are fighting with each other.
Thanks for coming out. We already know that. It's was a joke.

I don't understand why Gotham City Sirens 1 can't be the 1st appearance. Why are we trying so hard to find another comic as there 1st appearance. All the evidence so far has been weak.

Got a few more ashcans like Xeno, Galaxion, Cynicalman, Lethargic Lad, Mundane Adventures of Dishman and a few others.

Johns is the head of DC so might not be a title he worked on.
This is how I see it.
- Static has been talked about for years.
- Legion of Super-heroes has been teased on Supergirl and flash tv shows.
- Birds of Prey has a good chance now that the movie has been changed to Gotham City Sirens. Recently the DC tv shows have added a few female heroes connected to Birds of Prey like black canary and gypsy.
- Metal Men has been mentioned before as a tv show.
- The Question is another character they have talked about which could be connected to Birds of Prey with The Huntress.
-
Any bets on new TV show Johns is talking about? We could start a pool there are so many choices .
Static
Legion of Super-heroes
Metal Men
Birds of Prey
Vertigo title

Rarest comic I own.
15 Cent Price Variant

Is this hard to find, worth the price of the sale?
Yes. Those ashcans from the 80's are hard. Zot, moebius, flaming carrot, grips, yummy fur, etc.. are other examples.

The Quadrant #1 9.8 that's sitting on eBay is newly graded. There are two copies on the census at the moment, and when it gets updated, there will be 3. Ok, sure, it's not the $90 that it sold for in 2011, but seriously, folks? $230 US for a tough, tough classic 80's magazine sized comic? With make an offer available, so you might even be able to get it for much less? Do people think more copies are going to flood the census? (They're not. This is a magazine sized book; the vast majority of copies that still exist are 9.0s or less. Mine might be a 9.2 with a press.)
Why is it still there?
Quadrant was a BIG DAMN BOOK in the mid 80's, and I wasn't even a collector then. Does everyone just forget that?
I wonder what's wrong with a lot of people, that these kinds of books aren't immediately bought, and just sit there, begging. Do they think that another copy is just going to come along any time? It's been five years since the last 9.8 sold. If I was still buying books, you better believe I'd be making an offer on that copy right now.
Or....it could just be that no one appreciates these things like they did back then. I doubt that...but that book shouldn't still be available.
Who cares that it might be "overpriced"? What's $230 for a book with a population of 3?
I truly, truly don't understand this market. It's a complete goldmine for the serious collector of classic stuff. Total goldmine. We are truly spoiled.
Yeah this book is impossible in 9.8 and even harder to find. Only by luck was I able to find the other 2 CGC 9.8's.

Sweet Juggernaut cover vs. sweet green cover with washed up heroes.
what does this mean?Card collector vs comic collector thoughts. Will be interesting to see which wins.I think it's about the argument over what constitutes a 1st appearance and what should the hobby value more in the variations that people have come up with.
Thor 411 is the more important New Warriors book to some and 412 to others.

Nerd, Arcade & Comic block variants are exclusive comic book variants included in a subscription box service. Every month you receive a box full of goodies like an action figure or toy, pins, t-shirt, comic, prints, posters, etc.. Some of the Nerd, Arcade & Comic block variants are hard to find.

The villain Shocker is getting diversified too apparently? I don't know, I mean it's not a big deal in itself, but when I see arbitrary decisions to change the mythology like this I can't help but think of Fantastic Four and wonder if there's an unending string of more bad decisions in this movie coming that we just haven't heard about yet.
My spidey sense is tingling, I got a bad feeling about this one.
#29 is the most important person on the call sheet.

Micronauts?
Micronauts belong to Hasbro not Marvel.

Doctor Strange Movie Introduces the Multiverse
This could get interesting. Squadron Supreme, What if?, Marvel Zombies, 2099, New Universe, etc.. I better start stocking up.
Anyways, one of my theories is at the end of Infinity War 2 the Avengers will see or meet the X-Men. Looks like there is a chance now.

Great time for me to be out of Walking Dead 108. Didn't think they would show him in the trailer.

Looks like Riri is not just A new Iron Man, but is THE new Iron Man(?)
http://time.com/4394478/iron-man-riri-williams-tony-stark/
Yikes. Says #9 is considered first appearance too.
#7 - 1st Appearance of Riri Williams (Cameo)
#9 - 1st Full Appearance of Riri Williams / 1st Appearance of Riri's Armor
Note: Riri's Armor is not War Machine Armor. Will probably be new War Machine in Civil War II then become the new Iron Man with Riri's Armor later this year.

The Guardians of the Galaxy unknowingly bring the venom symbiote to earth in the GOTG 2 movie. With the Maximum Carnage movie for either Spider-Man 2 or 3 with Flash Thompson becoming Agent Venom by the end of the movie.

That's a jerk statement. With marketing and promotion (not to mention friends), you can't avoid a lot of these movies. From all what I have heard, read & seen today about the Justice League movie, I am officially done.Once again, DC gave away to much.
Perhaps don't look at it until the movie comes out? There's an idea
Kevin76 is someone who needs attention like a toddler. Just ignore him like everyone else. I already responded to him in a way to shut him up.

Stealing a quote. This person said it best.
So, Bruce Wayne/Tony Stark is ensembling a team to fight Steppenwolf/Loki, who is leading an army of chitaru/parademons in search of the teseracht/mother box, while Darkseid/Thanos plots in the shadows...

Here is the deal.
The overstreet advisors have a responsibility as the leaders of this hobby to move it forward not just financially but historically as well. For over 20 years, the overstreet advisors have been focussing on pricing of comics and forgetting about their other duties as historians. There have been some great historical articles in the Overstreet Price Guide by individuals over the last 20 years but as a collective (overstreet advisors) they have failed or neglected with historical progression of this hobby.
I am hoping by the 50th Overstreet Price Guide that all the overstreet advisors spend a few days or a weekend and tackle the historical part of this hobby.
This includes;
1. Designation of the Chromium Age (1993 - ?),
2. Emergence of the Digital or Silicon Age (i.e. Movies, TV, internet, digital comics, etc..)
3. Designation of new classic covers (i.e. Hulk #340, X-Men #141, Batman #251, etc..)
4. New or updated definitions (i.e. 1st Appearance, cameo, variant, restoration, conservation, etc...)
5. Misc. (i.e. Foriegn Editions, Newsstands, grading, etc...)
Note: It is almost universally accepted now that the next age will be "Chromium Age" (1993 - ?) due to the foil, holofoil, hologram, chromium & variant covers that dominated the age. With the next being "Silicon Age" due to emergence of comics in popular culture through movies, TV, internet & digital comics.
Modern Age should always be used for the current age until it is designated by the overstreet price guide as something else.
