  1. Just picked me up some color guides and gorgeous full process color art. The images are pretty big and I wanted to be kind to those on dial-up so click the thumbnails for a larger pic.

First up are a few color guides from the original Longshot series containing the very first panel appearances of Spiral and Mojo!

Next up is the new pride of my collection: 29 of the 47 original color art pages from Marvel Graphic Novel #4: The New Mutants by Glynis Wein. The Marvel Graphic Novel series was produced using the relatively new (for the time) full color process. This gave Glynis the freedom to paint these pages using a wide range of colors and her work was directly photographed to print the final book. The painted pages appear much, much more bold and vivid than the published pages. Because these pages were being used directly for printing, word balloons were colored over - you can still see the texture of the paints under the words on the printed pages! Each page is painted over a production sized photostat of the linework on matte photo paper. Here are a few of the pages:

Thanks a ton to Tom at Fanfare for these pages! Tom informed me that he got the New Mutants pages years ago from Glynis and that these were all the pages she gave him. I would love to put the entire color guides back together so if you have knowledge of the whereabouts of my missing pages, please let me know. Also, if you know of contact information for Glynis Wein (now Oliver), please let me know.

    Thanks, and enjoy!

  2. Yup... just a 24 year-old young'un here hi.gif The book came out right at that impressionable age and when the market was dying for new Star Wars content (as opposed to being way overflowed as it is now). As a kid, I dug into anything Star Wars I could find. This was the first real look we had at any Jedi outside of the original trilogy and they presented a pretty cool story too. I got such a rush finally seeing Jedi after hearing so much about them in the movies and the books that started coming out at that time. It's really too bad that the prequel trilogy sucked so much. I was hoping for something closer in feel to TotJ but we ended up with awkward trials at comedy and wooden acting.

The Dorman covers are really killer. I read on the Comicart-I board that George Lucas himself has all the Dark Empire covers. I wonder how many souls you have to sacrifice to the bearded one in order to get one out of his grasp 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

  3. My first Jim Lee piece(Batman 619): and first Frank Quitely page (All-Star Superman 7)

WOW! Beautiful pages there! Anything by those guys is worth a dancing banana or three yay.gifyay.gifyay.gif

I really lucked out last night and picked up one of my holy grails on the cheap off of eBay:

    ca_3.JPG

It's the first page from the first issue of my favorite childhood series: Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi! yay.gif It features the first appearance of many key characters in the series (first character panels have become the core of my OA so getting the top one from my favorite series is really major)! First page from your favorite series - it doesn't get much better than this cloud9.gif ...except for the cover... which has a happy owner not wanting to sell tongue.gif

  5. Overdue kudos to Rich_Henn and pirate for great packaging and fast shipping on some nicely graded but crappy (stories - from the lean years) Uncanny X-Mens. But I needed them for the run, so thanks a ton guys! cloud9.gif

Now just about 6 more hands of modern drek to hunt down before it's time to pay real money for the good early books tongue.gif

  6. Kudos to:

Chi Bamm for a great lot of moderns for a good price delivered quickly thumbsup2.gif

mikeyrsmith - I wish I could say I was disappointed and my disappointment would detract anyone else from ever purchasing from Mike again (so I could sneak in and get all his great deals) - but won't be that selfish. Don't miss out on Mike's awesome deals on modern lots. The quality of the books is fantastic with equally amazing prices. Tight packaging delivered quickly as well. thumbsup2.gif
