  1. Lots of reasons. Starting with panel 2 on page 1. Absolutely nothing in Hanks entire output looks anything like this. Believe me....this is NOT by Hanks...Even the signature is off. -Paul
  2. Nice stuff, but, though it is signed "Fletcher Hanks", I am certain that it ain't drawn by Hanks. Hence, it ain't in the books. Nice try! I am still hoping to find any stories that I may have overlooked. thanks, -Paul
  3. Paul Karasik here. Huh? I missed one? I am away from my database right now...Can I please ask you to post a scan of the first page of the Stardust story to which you refer? thanks, -Paul
  4. As far as I am concerned, Point 5...you WIN!!!!!!! -Paul Karasik
  5. Too bad. I, myself, have only seen photos of a few pages and those Whirlwind Carter stories look absolutely stunning! Someone MUST have copies that can be scanned...but WHO? Any tips or leads, guys? -Paul
  6. Gulp! Mia culpa. Point 5 also send me a nice juicy Fantomah tale from Jungle #14...one of the nuttiest stories of the lot. Thanks, P.F.! How do I contact Scrooge? What's his number a the Money Bin...or should I say the Comics Bin?
  7. Hi Fox gang, I posted the below note a while back and got a nice hand from Ryan who helped me check a Jungle tale off the list and Jon L. with a Big Red story. Can any of you other guys help me out here. I am just a few stories short of a second volume of Fletcher Hanks. Thanks y'all! *** Hi everyone, I am back after a long absence but that does not mean that i have not been enjoying the juicy scan y'all dish up. Thanks also to all of you who picked up my book, "I Shall Destroy All the Civilized Planets: The Comics of Fletcher Hanks". The book has done surprisingly well and is now in its 3rd printing thanks to enthusiasts such as yourselves. The publisher is keen on pulling together a 2nd volume, but I have run out of stories. Can anyone help me out by providing good scans of the Hanks' tales in the following: JUNGLE (Fiction House) #2 Mystery Woman of the Jungle #8 [The Temple In the Mud Pit] #9 The Tiger-Women of Wildmoon Mountain] #12 [The New Blitzers] #14 [The Revenge of Zomax] FIGHT COMICS (Fiction House) #3 [The Timber Thieves] #4 [The Lumber Hijackers] #6 [The Paper Racketeers] #7 [The Lumber Hijackers] #8 [The Monk's War Rockets] #9 Last appearance Sept. 1940 [searching For Sally Breen] Daring Mystery (Timely) #4 [Mars Attacks] Whirlwind Carter #5 [Planet of Black-Light] Whirlwind Carter Planet Comics (Fiction House) #2 The Dashing, Slashing Adventure of the Great Solinoor Diamond, Tiger Hart (Medieval story) #5 Buzz Crandall [slaves of the Flower People] #8 Buzz Crandall [sophus, the Mad Philosopher]
  8. I posted this a few weeks ago and got no response. Can anybody here help me especially with the first two Timely stories? Hi Timely fans, I am Paul Karasik, the cartoonist and editor of "I Shall Destroy All the Civilized Planets: the Comics of Fletcher Hanks". The book has done so unexpectedly well (now in its third edition), that I am contemplating a second volume. I am in the need of high res scans of the following stories. Please note that there are some Timely titles in there. If anyone can help me out with scans of these I would be very appreciative and if the book does indeed get printed my gratitude will be made public (if you so choose). Tips and leads also appreciated! thanks, Paul Karasik DARING MYSTERY #4 & #5, Whirlwind Carter stories JUNGLE COMICS (All Fantomah tales): #2 Mystery Woman of the Jungle #9 [The Tiger-Women of Wildmoon Mountain] #12 [The New Blitzers] #13 [The Tiger Women] FIGHT COMICS 3-8, Big Red McLane stories under the pen name, "Charles Netcher" PLANET COMICS #2 The Dashing, Slashing Adventure of the Great Solinoor Diamond (Sequence 3 , 5 pages) #6, & #8, Buzz Crandall stories under the name, "Henry Fletcher" ( may not be by Hanks) _________________________ http://www.fletcherhanks.com

  10. Hi Buttock (what a cheeky name!), Sorry for the delayed response. "I Shall Destroy All The Civilized Planets" should be available from your local comics store. The first two editions sold out much quicker than anyone guessed that they would, but the third edition is now in. Ask your store owner first, please. Everyone makes out better (including yourself) when you support your local store. I will be in Brooklyn on Friday night , April 18, signing books at a new comics store in Williamsburg called Desert Island along with Mark Newgarden. I will have Hanks' earliest non-published work on display there and Mark will be showing some Garbage Pail Kids rejects. Then on Saturday, April 19 I will be at the NY Comic Con signing books at the Fantagraphics booth from 1-3. Drop by and say Hi!
  11. Hi guys, In case y'all are interested, "I Shall Destroy All the Civilized Planets" has been nominated for TWO Eisner Awards! Whoda thunk that a book of old Fletcher Hanks stories would have done so well?! Thanks for all your support, guys! -Paul
  12. As I understand it, the Hanks book has done moderately well in France. So far there have been no other offers for other foreign editions. I think it would do very well in Japan, though...they seem to like twisted American stuff. I still need some help tracking down those missing tales. Any idea where to turn? Any other message boards, collectors groups, anything? Also, I will be signing Hanks books in New York on April 18 at Desert Island in Brooklyn and on April 19 at the New York Comic Con. Come on by! thanks, -Paul
  13. Now THAT"S the kind of response I was hoping to get from y'all! Why don't you guys get in touch with me via the CONTACT page at www.fletcherhanks.com website and I can get you the specs. While you are there, I suggest that you check out the obituary of Fletcher Hanks, Jr. who, I am sorry to say, died a few weeks ago. BTW, PointFive: I imagine that if a second volume DOES appear a Space Smith story will be included. I am fairly certain that these stories were largely sketched-in by Hanks but most of the penciling and inking was done by an inferior hand. There are one or two that are pretty good, though. Does anyone know anyone else who might be able to help me out? Thanks a million! -Paul K.

  15. Hi Sean, Why don't you send me an e-mail via the CONTACT page at www.fletcherhanks.com and we can see if we can work something out. -Paul Karasik
  16. Hi there. This is my first post on the Fiction House thread. I have been hanging out and receiving a lot of help over at the Fox thread. Based on the unbelievable response to my book, "I Shall Destroy All the Civilized Planets: The Comics of Fletcher Hanks" (now in it's third printing!), I am beginning to contemplate a second volume of the comics of Fletcher Hanks. Below is my wish list. Does anyone have any of these books? If so would you be willing to make some decent high-rez scans for me for potential publication? In return you will receive an acknowledgement should the book be published, an inscribed copy of the book, and my undying gratitude. Here's the list: Hanks wish list JUNGLE (Fiction House) #2 Mystery Woman of the Jungle #4 Gorilla story #8 [The Temple In the Mud Pit] #9 The Tiger-Women of Wildmoon Mountain] #12 [The New Blitzers] #14 [The Revenge of Zomax] FIGHT COMICS (Fiction House) #3 [The Timber Thieves] #4 [The Lumber Hijackers] #5 [The Sinister Stranger] #6 [The Paper Racketeers] #7 [The Lumber Hijackers] #8 [The Monk's War Rockets] #9 Last appearance Sept. 1940 [searching For Sally Breen] Daring Mystery (Timely) #4 [Mars Attacks] Whirlwind Carter #5 [Planet of Black-Light] Whirlwind Carter Planet Comics (Fiction House) #2 The Dashing, Slashing Adventure of the Great Solinoor Diamond, Tiger Hart (Medieval story) #5 Buzz Crandall [slaves of the Flower People] #8 Buzz Crandall [sophus, the Mad Philosopher] thanks, -Paul Karasik
  17. It's me again. Based on the unbelievable response to "I Shall Destroy All the Civilized Planets" (now in it's third printing!), I am beginning to contemplate a second volume of the comics of Fletcher Hanks. 18. Michael Feldman did provide interesting data. He also solved the mystery of the 1945 Hanks comic. It turns out that the story from Witty #1 is merely a reprint of a Big Red McLane story from Fight #7. So I go back to my original contention that Hanks stopped working in comicbooks in 1941.
  19. The Hanks story from Witty is anoither lumberjack story like the Big Re McLane tales from the first few issues of Fight. In fact, he even swipes from himself! there will be examples from the upcoming interview in The Comics Journal (where Haks and the interview will be featured on the cover of the Best of 2007 issue! That's a scoop, for anyone who gives a hoot.) I am fairly certain that the 1945 story was drawn later based on my knowledge of Hanks rendering style. Does anyone have any suggestion where I should turn to ask this question (other message boards? other experts?) ?
  20. Somewhat off-topic, but you guys are the only folks I know who just might know something about this. Those of you who have read my book, "I Shall Destory All the Civilized Planets: The Comics of Fletcher Hanks" know that I have been working under the assumption that Hanks stopped working in comic books in 1941. I was shocked to find a comic book called "Witty Comics" #1 published by Irwin H. Rubin containing Hanks artwork from !1945!!! Does anybody know anything about Rubin or have any other titles from this outfit that might contain Hanks art? -Paul
  21. Ooops! HERE is the correct Page 1 from the Stardust tale in Fantastic #8: BTW: I will be appearing at Rocketship in Brooklyn on Dec. 8th to speak about Hanks and sign copies of "I Shall Destroy All the Civilized Planets!" Hope to see some of you there!
  22. Hi y'all, Sorry to have been out of touch with this thread. I have just been too durn busy with this cockamamie Fletcher Hanks book! The first edition sold out in 3 weeks (no doubt thanks to many of you, and I DO mean THANKS!).The second edition has just sold out and the third edition is being printed as I type. I thought only you guys would be interested but it seems that even "normal' people dig that cah-razy Hanks art! Here's the scoop on those tales from Fantastic #8. This is just my opinion based on hours and hours (O.k., let's be honest...YEARS!) of looking at Hanks work. The Stardust story in Fantastic #8 is just about the lamest one in the run. It looks like it was done on the subway on the way to the Fox offices. it appears rushed, filled with shortcuts, sillhouettes and long shots. It is, however, a very significant story in that it shows how great an artist Hanks really was. How so? Many people still make the assessment that Hanks is so bad that he is good. Not true. Hanks is so good that he's great! And a really bad Hanks story just proves that when the guy was on his game he could tell a comics story like nobody else. His storytelling chops are solid, his drawing is dynamic and bold. Sure his character design is bizarre and his plots are twisted, but that doesn't make him a bad cartoonist. Au contraire! [/img]
  23. Hi y'all, Really great stuff here. I appreciate all those scans...wonderful stuff! Sorry for the delayed response, but I have been out promoting "I Shall Destroy All the Civilized Planets: The Comics of Fletcher Hanks". The reason that the book has been so hard to get is that it completely sold out within the first three weeks of publication! Whoda thunk it?! The new 2nd edition should be back from the printer shorty and those amazon orders will be filled (if you are really desperate, order it from Fantagraphics directly and you should be able to get it weeks earlier). Hanks t-shirts as well as links for other Hanks stories, interviews, etc. are posted at : www.fletcherhanks.com ...and again, thanks for all your help and support along the way (especially to Maestro Berk!)
  24. Hi guys, There is an interview with me about Fletcher Hanks over at: www.comicsreporter.com If you don't see it, look in the archives bar on the right side. I will be speaking about Hanks at the MoCCA festival on Saturday, June 23,2007 at 10 AM at the MoCCA Gallery, 594 Broadway. Drop by and introduce yourselves!
