I got a new emoji I've never gotten and I'm not going to share it because I'm instead going to go sit and obsess over what it means and I just knew I shouldn't have submitted my grades so early this round so I'm only going to type in run-on sentences while I obsess over this new emoji because I'm very worried but somehow slightly optimistic which makes no sense but also kinda does and I have no clue what I'm doing in this contest at this point...

Wow, congratulations, that is a gorgeous copy. This is the one big Bat-book I'm missing from my 200-713 run. Very jealous, thanks for sharing!

Its software emulation, no different than what Nintendo did with the Mini NES/SNES. The problem with software emulation is that it's not perfect. So it's not EXACTLY a true reproduction (but so close that noone can usually notice). The legal grounds are more questionable. Emulation itself is legal. What's illegal is distributing copyrighted software. So if you rip your own software, it's totally legal. If you download a ROM, it's illegal. Same with systems that have a Bios (PSX, Ps2 etc.) You can rip your own bios and its fine, if you download it, its illegal. I have a PSX emulator on my steamdeck with rips of my old games because 1) it's nice to travel and play old school crash bandicoot and wrestling games and 2) Hooking up my psx to a modern tv is a nightmare.
But yea, it's mostly nostalgia. It's really hard to play an old NES or SNES game that you didn't play as a kid because its just not that connected.
The other really great thing about the Steam Deck is being able to play new(ish) AAA titles on the go from Steam, like the Batman Arkham Series, Red Dead Redemption 2, etc.

Oddly enough, I found this same book at Half Price Books myself a month or two ago. Definitely a cool find!
Weird! I wonder if some unclaimed copies ended up going to shops or something? But 5 years after SDCC would be odd...

I found two copies sell for $50 of the Batman 1 SE 2019 SDCC one in Nov 2023 and one recently on April 13, 2024
Oh nice, thanks! I knew I recently saw one listed on eBay but it was gone, I should have thought to double check the sold listings. It's a cool book - heavy glossy cover and all black on the back, so a terrible fingerprint magnet. Mine has some bad tics on the back too - but it's ok because I'm not selling it and I paid $2. It's got a version of the New 52 #1 cover under the mask cover, it looks like this:

Two Batman New 52 books I didn't know existed until I found them in the wild - and I collect Batman (so, I guess you can find them in the wild, but not very often...).
The first is a Batman #1 Special Edition that was a freebie at SDCC 2019 - I found it for $2 at Half Price Books last weekend. It's hard to find out much about this book, but CGC calls it the "Batman 80th Anniversary Special Edition" and there are 14 on the census:
The second is Batman 50 New 52 - this is the Tyler Kirkham Hastings Exclusive Black and White variant. Also not a ton of info out there about this book that I could find (not sure if it was limited, print run, etc. I do know there was also a color variant of the same cover). I found it for $10 at a local show today - there are only a few eBay listings I can see (no sales), and they're around $100-125+. 16 on the CGC census.

I have those, so all good. However I did notice I needed 871 and 873, so I was getting ready to beat you for it.
I'll look and see what I have, there's a small chance I have dupes of those - I'm pretty lacking with late Detectives though, so it's doubtful. Batman on the other hand...
