  1. My wife and I went to SF 10 years ago (I had a work conference) and we had one full Saturday to spend walking/taking transit everywhere - we put on like 14 miles of walking - and we had a great time at a couple of really cool dive bars in the Tenderloin. Granted, it was daytime and it was 10 years ago; I understand things have changed quite a bit. Is the Tenderloin now even worse off than it used to be? Even then I wouldn't have taken the kids with us of course, but it would have been a completely different trip with the kids with us either way. We saw some great live music in the Haight, and we met some people who invited us to a Louisiana/Bayou style bar elsewhere - can't remember where that was - but the music and food were incredible. Also had the best Chinese food I've ever had in Chinatown. That was an awesome trip.
  2. This tapestry is from the 13th century and reportedly shows Thor, Odin and Freyr: If I had a JIM 83, I'd probably trade it for this tapestry. Maybe.
  3. Me too! This one's pretty beat up, but for less than the cost of a bottle of soda, I was stoked to get it!
  4. I know these aren't moderns (or high grade), but for a buck apiece, they had to come home with me:
  5. Since I don't think he has a "kudos thread," I just wanted to say that I bought a book from longshot975 and I'm very happy with the purchase - there was some weirdness on Paypal's end that was out of either of our control (I think it was part of Paypal's new, unclear rules/hoops to jump through for sellers), and he was in communication with me the whole way through, and shipped right away once everything was resolved. I got the book in great condition, exactly as he described it. Just my .
  6. This is really cool - especially given the similarities, that it's Kirby and that it predates Thor's Marvel debut. But since Thor is a Norse god of mythology and can't be copyrighted as an idea, DC can still use him in their books. Here's a panel from Wonder Woman 771 that came out last year, when Diana went to Asgard: Granted, it's not the same version of Thor popularized by Marvel, but the idea is similar to how a lot of the Disney classics are based on public domain stories - you can't copy Disney's version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, but you can make a product with Snow White as long as it doesn't copy Disney's version of the character. The fact that the Tales of the Unexpected came first and is so close to what would ultimately become the Marvel Thor ideal is really interesting though.
  7. I assume you know this and it's the reason you said that, but the artist on this book was the creator of Madman. Congrats on a great pickup!
  8. Closing this one down on Friday. 25% off all books until the thread is closed.
  9. LCS has a sale going on through May; picked up a fun little batch of stuff for a pretty decent price:
  10. Here are two of my favorites that are outside the regular stuff I think of for Neal - I picked both of them up earlier this year:
  11. Exact same thing happened to me - it took about 3 business days after I did the verification, and then it was resolved.
  12. If I ever win the Powerball, I'm opening a comic shop - that way I can run it at a loss so I can just keep all the cool stuff that comes in...
  13. I would love to see a thread from shop owners about some of the coolest and/or rarest things that have come into their shops (and conversely, some of the weirdest and worst things, or maybe some of the most out-of-touch sellers etc.). Have any interesting stories to share? It could make a neat YouTube channel too - like a more real-life "Comic Book Men" - although I did enjoy that show for what it was.
