I hate to, but I always ask on this, ASM 3, 21, 23 and DD 5 & 7 and TTA 62.I know many others have P/U, (FF/X-men/TOS etc) but these are my main focus tiles.

Well I thank you for asking. It saved me the disappointment of submitting a book in which I get a .5 in the best case scenario. I didn't notice it because it didn't affect the story and unless I counted the pages I wouldn't have found out until too late.

The rear splash, a full page with art "pin up" that some collectors cut out of the comic book.

    I'm in the 3.0/- camp.

Thanks for the heads up. It has been removed. They tore or cut it so I didn't see any evidence of a missing page right away. Does this make this a .5?

  3. Hey all! Another Silver age key. 1st appearance of Scorpion.  It's torn around the top staple but hanging on. Pretty severe tanning (shadowing? Not sure of the difference) along the top and spine.  Appears to have some water damage along the bottom BC. And missing smaller than a dime sized piece along the top BC.

    TIA

Considerable oxidation shadows on front and back covers.  A photo of the inside of the front cover & splash page would be helpful in assessing the amount of tanning on the cover and page quality.  The centerfold gives some idea, but tanning is generally towards the outside of the book where there’s more exposure to air, light, heat etc.   Likely, the BC is going to draw the grade down.  But by how much?  Can any experienced graders help?

NG — because I’m just not sure.

Inside front cover and splash page. Thanks.

  5. Hey all. I've been lurking and occasionally posting some pictures on Spare a Grade but wanted to share my first grading submission. I posted this in another forum but I was told it was probably best to put it in the general forum.

After doing some cleaning and organizing during Covid I decided to submit some books to CGC. I didn't have any experience or connections at the time because grading wasn't around when I was collecting as a kid. So I looked up a LCS and submitted through them. He said he had a presser that he preferred to CGC's so I used his. I probably slightly overpaid but if the books come back well I will be happy. I didn't take individual pictures but took a fanned out picture of what I gave him so I had a record of it. They all seemed pretty clean and sharp to my untrained eye but at the time I wouldn't have know the difference between an 8.0 and a 9.8 (not sure I could do it right now but will feel better once I see some books that have been graded).

Anyway, I think the books are probably still a month or so off but I want to share my sweat.

    Here's a list of books.

3 copies of New Mutants #98

    NM #87

    ASM #238 with Tattooz

    ASM #300 Newsstand

    Locke & Key #1

The corners look blunted. Slight spine roll maybe? And a few spine tics

I'll say 8.0 as is with a chance to improve to a 9.0 after a press.

I may not know what I am looking for but a think the corners are pretty sharp. I think the blunting effect may be from shadows from my photographs. As for the spine roll you are probably right about that. Definitely pressing before grading.

    Thank you for the feedback.

I think I'm probably gonna press and slab this. It's been sitting in my collection in my basement and I think it would look nicely mounted somewhere. Outside of a tick on the back and a small one on the front I think it shows very well. Sorry for the glare on a the pictures. I am still trying to learn the best way to take photos for grading.
