I'm very glad that some of you like the box I made. I wanted to make comic book boxes that would be very sturdy and last a lifetime, but would also to be beautiful to look at, and unique. This was my first effort, and I'm pleased with the results. Here is a look from a couple other angles.

I read this thread with interest, since I just acquired a large Fiction House collection that includes an Okajima book. I didn't see this one listed. - Lee Hester Lee's Comics of California

About 3 years after this picture was taken, Action #1 was released. I wonder how many were printed, and how widely they were distributed? If you were in the right place, at the right time, you (or, rather, your granddad) could have bought it for a dime. And then, if he had the vision and foresight, and you were a very good boy, he could have saved it for YOU, his favorite grandson! And today you would be a millionaire. Or a collector that puts Nic Cage to shame. Here's some questions for the experts: Are there any legitimate pictures of Action #1 for sale on a newsstand? What are the earliest comic books pictured for sale? What is the most valuable vintage comic book shown for sale on a newsstand?

I'm hoping that someone can produce the original photo as it looked before the Action #1s were photoshopped in.

Not so fast. It's quite a coincidence that Action Comics #1 is the only comic book showing. And it just happens to be front and center. The rest are magazines. And those Action #1's are the same size, not comic book size. Probably fake. Probably not even the correct time period if one knew the on sale date of the magazines shown.

I don't think you'll find anyone desperate to sell a Spider-Man #1. They sell rather well. I guy asked about a 1.8 and I happened to have one.

My opinion: I have had books damaged by these holders and will not use them. The flap and the piece that tucks have left impressions on the books behind them when they are tightly packed. I had a number of books that were not CGC worthy only because they were stored in this manner. So, if you are going to use these, put a board between each book in the box, or make sure they are not tightly packed. Again, my opinion. Thanks for sharing that. I haven't heard about that problem before, but it does seem possible for that to happen if you stack the books or put them in too tightly in a box. The material is thick, and it would be thicker on the tops with all the flaps down creating uneven pressure on the books if things were tight. I used to hate the flip top mylars. It's really hard to get books in and out, and you also have all that extra thickness on top which can lead to the book bending in the middle. Are those called shurlocks? Do they still make those? Ugh! It just goes to show that care must always be taken to correctly preserve comics. It a real bummer when your archival method actually hurts your comics instead of preserving them. I hope that no one is offended by a little advert, but I think I have the perfect product, already in hand. It's the Ultra Pro Comic Stor Rigid Sleeves They stopped making them, but I was able to get the remaining stock. They have been selling like crazy for me. It's clear on both sides, and is much thicker than a mylar. It keeps a comic in nice shape, and does not need a backing board. It has a flap, that seals the comic without tape by tongue-in-groove.
