  1. Just wondering despite the delays and backlogs etc, are CGC prioritising Express packages and walkthrough? I know they’ve just started opening packages from end of April, but if you send in something for Express grading and the box has been marked to state that, would it be opened and graded within the 11 working day turnaround?

  2. Just wondering how I can find out how much is left from my $150 credit - can’t find anything about it in my account and plan on sending another submission and want to plan ahead.

  3. So following on from one of my previous topics, I got my Hulk 181 back and it was given a 0.5 (which I’ve made my peace with and understand the reasons), what I don’t get is that the creators and artists have no mention, neither does it state that this is the first appearance of Wolverine yet others do. Why is that?

Doesn’t CGC usually state the issues in the middle, with info on the left and right?

Yeah, you should out this guy.  There's no way anyone in the hobby for more than a month or two would fail to inspect a book like this before selling it on eBay.  I have missed stuff on books before but this stinks.

Hell, you guys can have a screenshot if that saves others from going through the same ordeal! I gave neutral feedback due to getting a refund, wish it was negative as he had the cheek to ask me to remove it. I replied with “remember how you said the cut pages wouldn’t affect the grade. Well CGC didn’t agree and gave it a 0.5”

    Haven’t heard from dabrakus411 since...

It's absolutely because of the missing coupon and missing page. And it's pretty much an automatic .5 when you have a book with a missing page unless you can Qualify the book. I'm sorry he wasn't clear with you about this, but that's why I only purchase raw books from people I trust (and even then, things can be overlooked...)  Ah well, I hope you got it for a good price...  hm

thought as much, yeah it was a pretty good price when I only thought the MVS was missing and then became a bargain once I kicked off about the other bits. Overall it was about £600

I'm not a hundred percent sure of the process, but these can go two ways, and at some point you had a secret opportunity to make a choice.

But it could have been evaluated where they essentially ignore the missing coupon and you get a green qualified label, OR they count the missing coupon as damage and grade it accordingly.

I'm not entirely sure how they make the determination (and you could written special instructions on your submission), but given that you're ALSO missing a part of another page (affecting story), I'm pretty sure this grade (certainly in this color) is more favorable for you.

Someone will come along shortly with a better explanation, i'm sure.  But these are the basics.

The qualified grade is for one big problem on an otherwise nice book. You book has multiple big problems on an otherwise decent book. Blue is correct.

It make sense it got blue since Blue will still be given to a book in the condition you describe.

As has been stated, the Qualified label is only supposed to be for one major flaw. Since the book has at least two separate major flaws, it can't be Qualified. I'm sorry for the bad news, but I'm glad to hear you're still happy with the book...

In your opinions, the comic isn’t in terrible overall condition (apart from the bits that have been cut), is the low grade likely due to the cut out parts?

Reason I ask is that this was purchased from some dirt bag on eBay that “forgot” to mention these extra cut pages and claimed it wouldn’t affect the grade. I got a partial refund for him lying to me, but wasn’t sure what damage this would have on the grading.

  7. Just had the results of my first submission and to be honest, it’s nothing to brag about. They gave my Hulk 181 a 0.5 which I understand the reasons behind as it’s missing the value stamp and there’s one other page that’s been cut which affects the story - doesn’t bother me, I’m a huge Wolverine fan and always wanted this comic.

The part that’s confusing me is that they gave it a universal grade...shouldn’t this automatically fall into the “qualified” section due to not being complete??

Thanks for getting back to me, so is there no way of posting to the UK office without signing up to NGC?

  9. Hi, I’ve recently sent a comic to your head office for grading and prior to this I saw an option to submit via your UK branch. I wanted to post there but kept getting told I can only drop it off or had to sign up to NGC to unlock the postal option - I’ve only just paid for a CGC membership and don’t really want to pay more just to post to the UK branch. Is this the only way around it?

You should check into this because it doesn't sound right. If it is right it's BS to have to buy 2 memberships :screwy:

That sounds kind of nuts. Contact them since the way you are going about it right now is needlessly inefficient.

This is what’s confusing - I just now tried submitting to the UK office and it greys out the postal option saying “you can only mail into headquarters” aka Florida. Looking at the NGC page, there’s nothing about signing up with them for comic grading or even posting to them, just coins...probably easier to figure out the Da Vinci code.

Yup, regardless of value. And it's in your best interest to report the right value because if you don't and it gets lost, then the royal mail won't give you anything back. By the way, isn't there a london office you can ship to instead?

Yeah I declared full value and insured. I looked into the UK office - it goes through NGC but you have to sign up to their membership program to be able to post there...don’t fancy that after just buying a CGC membership.

They wont since there are no customs fees when an individual, like you, sends any kind of mail to the US. What you should do next time though is write that the item is "to be returned".

Ah, I see. Is that regardless of value? We get destroyed in customs fees when the value is like £1,000 or so.

  13. I’m in the UK and just shipped my first comic, I declared the full value but marked it as gift (potentially incorrectly), but I’m a little concerned that CGC will get customs fees and make me pay for it. Has that happened to anyone before and do most of you mark as gift also?

Always give away the first hit. Get your customers hooked and they'll buy a shipping kit for each time they submit books. Maximize the revenue streams. How long before orders must be received in official CGC shipping kits in order to maintain quality control?

Hopefully that won’t become a thing! I can’t imagine they’ll force people to use their own branded boxes...if they do, I’m buying a CGC stamp and making my own 😄
