  1. Whoops -- sorry! But yeah...an action figure might have been an improvement...
  2. Seriously? Who's making it? http://www.sideshowtoy.com/collectibles/marvel-doctor-doom-sideshow-collectibles-400086/
  3. Btw...the (cosplay) Doom pictured is an action figure. But still...
  4. Mostly because Kirby's grand vision deserves better, and because "Cloudactus" isn't nearly as exciting, cool-looking, or awe-inspiring as something like this...
  5. Excellent seller -- easy to work with, FAST shipping, and secure packaging. Thanks!!!
  6. Knee-jerk reaction... DRAWING ON THE SLAB (which I know it's not): (thumbs u DRAWING ON THE BOOK: I mean, if you wanted a signed sketch of those characters, Trimpe was often readily available up until his passing. Why deface the book when you could have a nice signed SS copy AND a clean, separate sketch to go with it? On the other hand, it's not a high-grade copy, and I can easily see why a big Trimpe fan might very much cherish it...
  7. I sold an early coverless issue of More Fun Comics to Rubén Blades on eBay back in the mid-1990s...
  8. Time is not linear. Somewhere, out there, it's still 1951...
  9. Last night's flash flooding here in central MD (but not in our basement for a change, even though we spent all day on Sat prepping for it!) threatened to derail the annual Father's Day flea market/antique mall run with my daughter today, but we made it after all. We've been doing this for at least the past 8 years or so, and I'd have to say that today was easily one of the best trips ever: good weather, good food, no crowds, and LOTS of comics to pick through. My haul is pictured below. Plenty of good reading, and a few minor keys, too: Also found a few VERY cheap undergrounds, which I don't see all that often in the wild... ..and here are a few cool dollar-box books which were almost, kinda-sorta in grade (astonishing, really, given that none of them were bagged or boarded): And finally, a (non-comic) Father's Day gift to myself -- an original G.I. Joe Adventure Team "Secret Agent" set from the early 1970s (with a few extras, too)...all that's missing from the original set is the instruction sheet for the brief-case: A good time was had by all!
  10. Took a long road-trip earlier today to get an old guitar amplifier of mine fixed by a really good regional amp tech (in preparation for a big recording session I have coming up later this summer). While I was waiting on the repair, I wandered around town, lucked into a local comic store, and rolled home with these little gems for relatively light $$. Ya never know what you might find "on the road"...
  11. Yes. But who cares? Load it up with lower grade books (or, if you're a true purist, higher grade stuff -- after all, it was originally designed to display brand-new books!), give it a spin, have some fun, and re-live a small portion of your childhood. It's worth it!
  12. Not sure if anyone has ever posted a video of a spinner rack actually...y'know...spinning. So here's mine, loaded with a whole bunch of childhood favorites, doing exactly what it was designed to do...
  13. Why is Reed Richards 12 years-old? But seriously...I thought the last teaser trailer was cr@p, but...for more of the same modern CGI bs, this looked pretty darn good to me...
  14. Any/all of the BA Sgt. Rock stories drawn by Russ Heath in OAAW, starting around 214 or so through 281 (nearly the end of the run). Kanigher and Kubert handle most of the scripting (Heath scripts occasionally, too), so the stories are solid -- very pared-down, fast-paced, and often quite grim, as befits the subject matter. But the visuals, especially from 241 - 264 (which is where Heath really hits his stride in a long, unbroken run), are nothing short of astounding. Heath seemed to be almost physically incapable of drawing anything poorly...
  15. (thumbs u One day, a brave and very creative young filmmaker is somehow going to defy all the bean counters and dispassionate, dim-witted corporate custodians (some would say jailers) of our favorite characters, and make a colorful, fun, fast-paced, exciting, and truly imaginative FF movie which honors the legacy of the title AND can still be enjoyed by a general audience in search of old-fashioned, SF-based superhero action and adventure. Until then, here's a look at what might have been...and, with a little tweaking, what could still be, in the right hands: http://auntpetunia.com/index.html To date, this remains the only (never) filmed version of the FF (never filmed because it never existed in the first place!) that I'm even remotely interested in seeing! FACE FRONT!!!
  16. Looks like more overly-serious and turgidly portentous rubbish to me, with the same-old/same-old sonorous voice-over reading from the same-old/same-old sophomoric marketing copy...lots of faux-Socratic questions co-mingled with misplaced angst over the usual human failings and frailties, all designed to elicit knowing tingles from puffed-up undergraduate philosophy & sociology majors all over the world. Is this, after all, what Stan and Jack hath wrought in the end? I guess so...
  17. Now that's what I'm talkin' about! Eclectic tastes + true Flea Market Finds + light $$ =
  18. The first few images shown in my original post are from the same comic book ("The Enforcers", a team book), which dates from 1980: it's the latest one in the bunch, and probably one of the last produced (my buddy and I both gave up comics that year in favor of the usual high school distractions). All the rest are from the mid/late '70s...
  19. This cover in particular rules in so many different ways: I particularly dig the big guy with the beard and the skull and crossbones t-shirt. We talk a lot about "value" around here. To me, this stuff is priceless. It all should be compiled into a gigantic swingin' '70s omnibus of homemade superhero awesomeness...
  20. Hoping to shake loose a few more cool amateur pages from back in the day out of Boardiedom Assembled!
