  1. Wolverine was never very popular with my friends and I until the Claremont-Byrne run on X-Men. The first X-Men issues we read off the stands were the mid-'70s reprints, and Cyclops was--hands down--the coolest X-Man, and (to us at least) one of the cooler characters in the entire Marvel universe. There was just something about the costume, the visor, the eye beams, etc., that put him over the top for the 10 year-old comic kids at West Creek Hills Elementary School, ca. 1975.

I remember seeing the "new" X-Men for the first time at a friend's house (maybe around #96 or so?), and thinking "wow...these characters kinda suck." But a few years later, we were all crazy about the Byrne stuff...and Wolverine.

  2. I wanted to give kudos to new-ish member Kain76 for his purchase of a CGC X-Men 94. Fast payment and excellent communication. Thanks!

...I'd like echo what Marc said re: kain76. Great communication and fast payment on a GL 76 he just bought from me.

I thought I was the one who bought your GL 76 two days ago.....

:gossip: ...yours was the last of two copies I had. The first one I sold to kain76 (back on Jan 10), and it was a Fine/Fine+. (thumbs u

  3. I spent nine hours yesterday assembling the most complicated (and expensive) cluster fudge of a bunk-bed I've ever seen for my 8 year-old. It was a complete nightmare of mislabeled parts, a zillion different screws and bolts, and utterly confusing @ss-backwards instructions which were apparently written and drawn by Dr. Seuss. I sweated, swore, dropped stuff on my feet, busted my knuckles, and wrenched my back...but it was finished by the time my daughter was ready for bed last night, and when she saw it all put together, made up with her Barbie sheets and ready to go, she shot me a HUGE smile, threw her arms around me, and said "Oh, thank you, daddy...you're AWESOME."

Kids are a drain on anything and everything you call your own: time, money, energy, resources, patience, nerves, etc., etc. And they're worth all of it and much, much more.

So no...you'll never be ready (my parents weren't, but I'm damn glad I'm here!)...and nothing else compares.

    Good luck!

  4. Kudos to mikeyriffhard for some cool old books with Captain America in them. :applause:

And if you ever need to be reminded what real kick-azz rock'n'roll is supposed to sound like, ask him for a demo CD.

    The Ripovs rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrock!!!

:headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: out of :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Whoa! Too kind, man! Thanks! And glad you liked the books, too!

    Best,

Have you seen him recently? I haven't, and really don't know what to expect these days...

Saw him about 4 years ago......very comparable to when I saw him 25 years ago. Except he fires off a lot more bow and arrows mid-concert. He's a dude that just don't give a fukk. And will still take every solo he can. Not to be missed.
True story...our bass player, Jim, found himself in an elevator once with The Nuge several years ago out in California. After he got up the nerve, he turned to Ted and said: "Uh...Mr. Nugent, it's an honor to meet you...I'm a huge fan..."NUGE: "Thanks, man, I appreciate that."JIM: "...except for Damn Yankees."NUGE: (long pause) "...yeah, I get that alot..."

Did someone just diss the Foo's??? I saw them live a couple weeks ago and it was KILLER!!!! Best hard rock show I've seen in a long time...better then Van Halen....better than Bon Jovi.....Better than Rush....Almost better than Air Supply.

Dave Grohl is the coolest person in the universe and a freakin comedian too. Yes, I know, all these bands I mentioned are old. But so am I.

Counting Crows in a few weeks with Maroon 5. The Crows are probably my favorite live band. Adam is so disfunctional and the songs are super-heartfelt but when they need to rock, they can, better than most.

We inhabit different musical worlds, my friend...upcoming (mainstream) shows for me include Ted Nugent, Kix, and Motorhead...

    The Nuge!!! \(worship\)
PS: The Air Supply was a joke...I hope everyone got that. doh\! Although in full disclosure, if Making Love Out of Nothing at All doesn't move you, you're probably already dead. For 5 years or so, Jim Steinman was the best songwriter in the world and Bat out of Hell will be buried with me. Meat Loaf was the lucky recipient of incredible songs, amazing Todd Rundgren guitar and half the E-Street band backing him up. Hell, gimme that and I'm top 10.
Don't forget Meat's HUGE voice...which (to bring it all back home) he honed in the mid-70s as part of one of Ted Nugent's marauding touring bands...
