The attitude that everything is going up 30% next week pervades everything. I am looking at a 9 8 that had sold for $260-270 the last 3 auctions and BINs over the last 1-3 weeks. Every current BIN is prices $90-140+++ more than that. So I make offers at a little above the sales results. Most of the BINs auto reject. One guy does counter.  But he was the highest already and just countered with what the lowest BIN out there was. I don't think offering a little above the 3 sales results (one SS) was unreasonable. But folks want 30% more.

If your best offer is auto rejected, send the seller a message letting him know what your offer was and to contact you if he's interested.

I've been told this is against ebay rules but I've been very successful with this approach. Just be super polite.

A lot of times these sellers don't check the offers that have been rejected but when they actually see it, they sometimes change their minds.

Also...ebay adds a "reply with offer" option after the seller reads your message.

Not sure what you would call this but believe it or not both 9.8

That's a perfect example of what I'm asking.

It was more a general question and not about a specific book I own.

So...take a ding that size, move it to a corner on the other side of the book and call it a bend because it would affect every page.

  3.

I was one of the fortunate ones who got back into comics right before the boom...May/June 2020.

I've been tracking the books I bought and most did get a huge bump but have stayed steady since said bump.

ASM 300, 316 and 361 got their bumps earlier than 252.

I was able to get the first 3 back in 2020 without going broke but could not afford to buy them today.

I passed on a bunch of 252s in the past 10 months but wish I hadn't because now it's too expensive. 9.6 jumped from 230 to 525 out of nowhere and they're selling for 700 on Ebay.

I won't buy one now because it had its bump now and I don't see it going above 1000 anytime soon...i missed it.

What I'm trying to say is don't chase the dragon. These books had their bumps and will probably stay where they are or go down slightly.

If you can get a book for FMV, go for it but don't go over paying expecting another huge bump.

I bought your books for cover price 2hen they came out. How's that for hindsight?😏

Yeah I did too...I sold my collection when I had my first kid but they weren't worth much then. I usually bought 3 copies of everything back then.

My heart breaks for the generation before mine.

I knew a dude when I was a kid, I was no older than 12. This was around 1988. He had every issue of every title from #1 through.

FF, Hulk, Avengers, Xmen Spider Man...it was UNREAL. He was the original owner of every book. They were all perfect.

He would let me flip through them but never read them.

Long story short, he sold that collection for $10,000.

I still think about those books and get upset and they weren't even mine.

I always value my comics at 15% less than the "Sold" value. Assume the worst if you try to flip them and you're paying 13% in Ebay/Paypal fees. Then I always tack on 2% for packing costs, transportation, etc. It gives me a much more realistic number if it's something worth investing in. Even if you sell something for $100, you'll never actually get $100 unless it's straight cash.

Also technically you need to pay taxes on anything you sold too, so that can be another 28%(?).

Hopefully I'll never have to sell them.

I'd like to pass them down to my daughter...shes 13 and is really beginning to enjoy reading my comics.

I'm not looking to cash out...im just happy to get what I did before the prices went nuts.

You do you realize that 99% of the hobby color lifts books 24/7 right?

Every time you remove a ASM 300 from a bag and board back cover lift happens if you aren't careful.

What you think those black scuffing marks on the white back boards are?

I bought books flea markets where you can make out the back cover completely on the board but I always figured that was from storing them in a basement or whatever.

I only have around a thousand raw books and I change the bags/boards every 2 years or so...so no, I've not seen that with my books.

I don't know how reliable gocollect is but I've had it quoted to me in the past when trying to buy a collection. their $ are usually way off so for fun i ran GPA on your books

those 3 books are currently $4500 total combined on GPA

Those three books have not moved much in the last 4 weeks.

TMNT fell from $1400 to $1250

NM 98 went up from $775 to $875

TWD 1 has been $1450 for months

  8. Last summer I started collecting graded copies of books from my childhood.

I have 30 now and I've been tracking the FMV of this collection for the past 4 weeks on a week by week basis. I thought I'd post the results.

    It's 90% modern with a few BA.

I won't disclose what's in this collection unless asked to but I will list the 3 most expensive.

    Walking Dead 1 9.6

    TMNT 7 2nd print 9.8

    NM 98 9.6

    _________

    4/8/21 = $9,820

    4/14/21 = $10,205

    4/21/21 = $10,410

    4/28/21 = $10,597

    -----------------

    Up $777.00 in 1 month

  9. Wont surprise me when Marvel starts shipping new releases directly to CGC.

I mean, when you pick up a new release at the shop, you're always under the impression it's a 9.8.

How long is Marvel or the other comic/card companies gonna stand around and watch these potential new profits go to little guys on the net.

Chit...maybe we will soon see the MGC...Marvel Grading Company.

What I would do if I'm CGC is split into two services. Keep what they have now for books that are at least 5 years old. Start a new slab only service for books that came out in the past 5 years.

In other words, refuse to grade books until theyre 5 years old but offer to slab them at a reduced price.

This way they can dramatically improve TATs for everyone involved and you can still get your Negan Lives #1 into a nice shiny CGC case with everything but a grade.

You can have it graded for a reduced price in 2025.
