The lag time is based on the book tier and the current turnaround time. Since the turnaround times are slower now than when I did it you should probably expect a longer lead time.

    The CGC email will mean that the CCS services are complete and your books have moved over the CGC to wait in the grading queue. I hope this helps.

    Newbie here with a question for veteran users of the CCS service.  On Friday April 16th I received an email that "CLASSIC COLLECTIBLE SARASOTA FL" charged my credit card.  I'm thinking this is the quick press service that I signed up for my books that were sent in last year.

    They are Modern books that I had pressed and the status is still set as "Received".  Just curious if anyone knows what time table is after a quick press for the grading to kick in.  I'm guessing the clock starts again for the grading portion, which non-fast track is 53 days.  Just wanted to see what others have seen when doing the quick press and then grading.

    Newbie here, part of the unofficial group that in this Covid regime has decided to jump into the collectibles world and most likely exacerbated these wait times.

    I have two books that I submitted for CCS pressing back on 12/8/20.  Current turnaround times (as of 4/2/21) are 108 business days CCS "quick press" (I'm guessing the pressing is the quick part) then 50 business days for Modern book "grading".  Subtracting major holidays in that time frame, I'm calculating a finished date of July 23rd 2021 to get to 158 business days (163 business days minus roughly 5 major holidays).  Just short by a few weeks of the same period of time needed for human gestation...bleeping hell.   

    Just curious for the folks that were doing CGC back in the day, what were the turnaround times for pressing and grading in the good ole' days? 

     

     

  4. It looks really good, 9.0?  Could be a 9.2 but I'm curious about the perforations on the front of the book.  I'm guessing they are bindery defects and get a pass with the graders, sort of like ASM 300 (Marvel chipping).

    I own a few of the same era books (Dr Strange Annual 1, Hulk Annual 6, Giant Size Man Thing 4) that are in really high grade and I though about getting them pressed.  But they have that staple that is not through the center but on the edge, not sure I'm making sense there.  You can see it in the last screenshot, that ridge.  My concern that it might hurt the cover getting pressed.

    I received my first submission of books at the end of January and was very happy with the process.  I know, folks will mention the long waiting times but where so many like myself have been introduced into this new world of CGC due to Covid. (honestly 12 months ago I didn't know what a slab was) its to be understood.

    There was only one issue that I had with the entire process.  When I received my 24 modern book submission back I had one grader note, that was it.  All the books came back as a 9.0 and above save one, which was a 8.0 with the note.  Being a newbie I guessed that only notes under say a 9.0 received a grader note.  I posted a message on the forums and found out that some folks had notes for books graded as high as a 9.6.  So I emailed Customer Service for an explanation.  This was the answer I received, " Grader Notes are made at the graders' discretion; they are not a guaranteed part of the service but are provided as a courtesy to paid members and dealers when available."

    I'm guessing with wait times increasing exponentially that these notes are going to go the way of the dodo.  Look I'm cool with 35 business days from the "received" to the "quality control", I get it, CGC is busy.  But I don't like the fact that due to a luck of the draw that my grader decided to provide one note out of twenty-four, while another may have done ten, maybe twenty, maybe zero.  The one note read, light bends to cover, light creasing to cover.  I have to think that in grading a book it takes what, five to ten minutes maybe, to do it justice (I honestly don't know).  Typing that grader note took all of what maybe ten to fifteen seconds.  For twenty-three other books five minutes tops?  The grader has a reason for the grade, a few words as to why would be warranted I have to think.  

    What I would ask of the CGC is to place an optional service where you can pay to get grader's notes.  It makes the clients happy and provides a new revenue stream, win/win.  My wanting to read the notes was to learn more about the grading process, see what the grader sees.  Two reasons for this, I would understand the process as well as an entertainment value of sorts. I'm guessing that is what other folks ascertain from the notes. 

    Either provide notes or don't at least make it uniform or better yet, make it a service.  I'd gladly pay.

  6. I documented my first submission from last December and each update along the way.

    -  24 "Modern" books sent to CGC on 11/23/20 for grading only (shipped from Maine to Florida, arrived on 11/30/20)

    -  The shipment was "received" by the CGC on 12/8/20 (8 days from shipment physically being delivered to logging the shipment to the CGC database)

    -  The status was changed from "received" to "scheduled for grading" on 1/18/21. (28 business days, excluding holidays)

    - The status was changed from "scheduled for grading" to "grading/quality assurance" on 1/26/21 (7 days from being scheduled to grading)

    - The status was changed from "grading/quality assurance" to “Finalized/Imaged/Shipped” on 1/28/21 (3 days from grading to shipped)

    38 business days total from first status until last.

    On the plus side, it was only 3 business days from grading to the items being shipped.  The items were shipped very well, all packaged nicely.

    On the negative side, one of the books had the “Newton” ring.  Also, only one of the 24 books had grader’s notes (customer service told me this was subjective, depended on the grader supplying these or not, literally depends on who you get and with the long wait times I’m sure there are less and less grader notes available).  Out of the 38 business days, 35 days spent in from received to schedule for grading, essentially in limbo.
