  1. So, maddeningly, my last issue of that run is 313. I stopped collecting then when I enetered college and didn't pick up ASM again until 544. So no 316. But I do have a nice copy of 301 (although I doubt it's more than a 9.8).
  2. I'm about to ship off my ASM 300 to CGC in an attempt to cash in on the bubble while I can. I'm now wondering what else is worth sending in with it. Is this rising tide lifting all early McFarlane Marvels? ASM 298-305? Hulk 340-325? It seems his work on Infinity Inc and Detective isn't as interesting to collectors. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. As mentioned earlier, I've never bought comics with an eye toward selling them but it seems if I can take advantage of this boom to sell books I'm not attached to I could pursue my goals of buying original art and Kirby Fantastic Fours. (And yes, I recognize that by the time I get them back the market for these books could be dead. C'est la vie).
  3. Hi, I'm having trouble posting .jpegs to this forum. I'm getting a -200 error message, and Google is no help in explaining what that means. I converted these images to .jpegs from HEIF photos, so maybe that's the problem, but I would love to know if there is a workaround. Thanks!
  4. Thanks for the feedback. Would pressing make a significant difference to the grade, given the fold along the spine?
  5. Hi, new here so I hope I'm doing this right. The book is intact and in decent shape except it's sort of folded along its spine (not sure what the term is for that). Also, would this be a candidate for pressing, or would that exacerbate the folding problem? Thanks!
  6. I bought mine at the comic book store when it came out so my investment was $1.50. Even with the cost of joining CGC and grading / shipping etc. it’s all profit. Of course, I bought about 1,000 other comics that year that are almost worthless so you can consider that as my investment. It’s like buying 1,000 lottery tickets and hoping one hits. I never bought comics to sell them, though, and if I sell this ASM 300 it will be the first I’ve ever sold. But I have other collecting goals now (such as original art) and this seems like too good an opportunity to pass up. $4000 would buy a nice piece of original art. Another question- is it worth pressing this comic? How much more value would that add?
  7. The tulip bubble is an interesting analogy. Have there been other similar spikes in prices for comics that weren't based on their scarcity? FWIW, I'm about to ship mine off for grading but from what you're saying by the time I get it back it may be too late. Oh well.
  8. Thanks. Yeah, the more I poke around, the more it seems like that's the smart thing to do. With no record as a seller on eBay, I can't imagine anyone would give me a great price if I sold it raw. If it comes back graded at 2.0 I can always hold on to it for another 33 years.
  9. If that's cheap I definitely need to figure out how to sell mine.
  10. Oh, it's not a serious regret. There's no way 12-year-old me was going to come up with $500 in 1983. My bigger regret is not investing in original art earlier, like even 10 years ago. I had the money, more or less, but not the inclination. I've just started collecting and making up for lost time is expensive. And you are probably better off with your bachelors degree!
  11. No, my earliest is No. 5, first appearance of Doom, in very dubious condition. I remember when I was kid in the mid-80s seeing FF No. 1 for sale for $500 and thinking it was just impossibly expensive. If I had only known ....
  12. Wow. You're a lot farther along then I am. I'm now in the Lee/Kirby's and starting to realize I may need to liquidate some of my other titles if I'm going to realistically complete the collection.
  13. Oh, no worries. I had no expectations of them. Mostly just curious. Speaking of completionists, I'm working on a complete FF collection. I've spent 30 years on it and I imagine I may spend another 30 before I'm done.
  14. Are those indices worth anything? I have a handful (from Marvel and other company that did them for a while) and I always assumed they were inherently without value because there was no original content (aside from the covers, I guess)
  15. Hi, I'm brand new here. So new that this is my first post. I'm not new to collecting, however, and have a 6,000+ collection of mostly copper age books. This thread caught my eye because I realize I have a nice copy of ASM 300 sitting in a long box. It's not slabbed - it's not even in mylar, but in a standard plastic bag. I have no great affection for it and given the prices I've seen here, I could happily sell it and use the money to further my other collecting goals. Further complicating this is that I have never sold a comic, so I'm at a bit of a loss. What would this group recommend I do to realize the best price for it? Should I have it graded? Sell it on eBay? Consign it to Heritage? Hang on to it for another five years? (I do recognize I should get in a mylar bag asap). Thanks in advance
