  1. At those prices, you should have no trouble keeping the book in stock. (thumbs u Y'like that, huh?
  2. At those prices, you should have no trouble keeping the book in stock. (thumbs u Maybe so. Thats ok. But if you analyze that small group for $250 or so which recently got bid up, then it's not necessarily a stretch. Ironically they might prove to be relatively inexpensive in the long term...
  3. Here's the difference: In the 90s there were many copies of a few variations of books. So you'd have a foil cover of this and a hologram of that, and everyone was buying them because they thought they would be like sports cards, which is something that;s a totally different animal if you want to talk about bubbles. Surprisingly some of the stories and art were pretty good, but you had to read them to appreciate them. No one did that. They just wanted to speculate. It used to drive us nuts. In contrast, today we have print to orders. But we also have 5th and 6th printings. End result is about the same, but one difference is that the later printings of some of these books are actually HARDER to find than the earlier ones. I smell another speculation potential. Uh oh!
  4. Let me rephrase: The Saga bubble which appears to be expanding quite quickly. What's your web site? It is comicsamerica.com. Anyone is welcome to e-mail at any time at comics_america@mts.net, or if you'd like to speak personally, please call at (204) 489-0580. We'd be happy to reply to all.
  5. There's no doubt that this is one of the better comics to have come out in the past year and a half. Brian Vaughn's plotting and writing is superb and the art by Fiona Staples is a treat every issue. I just wish there were more copies out there. How's that for contrarian? It's as I say, if more people would take the chance and pre-order books they think are going to be exceptional, there would be a bigger pool of copies out there and the bubble effect might be a bit more muted. When everyone catches on after the fact and then there is a scramble for a limited number of books, it actually can hurt the market in the long run either by discouraging new collectors who feel they don't have a chance to compete on the early issues, or by ultimately running the risk of injuring collectors who paid bigger bucks for books and not being able to resell them because the prices got so far out of sight that they popped and the market collapsed.
  6. Let me rephrase: The Saga bubble which appears to be expanding quite quickly.
  7. Imagine that. I left the browser open all night and all day to periodically watch the comments. Now I'm starting to get addicted to it. (Seriously, if someone didn't give me a heads up about what was going on, I doubt I would have known. When attacked I tend to defend, otherwise I pretty much stay away from forums.) Just think...you might never get rid of me now. Incidentally, in case you're trying to figure out where I got into all of this, I have been doing this for (jeez I hate to admit to this...), well...since just slightly prior to 1960. I am also the originator and owner of the Winnipeg Pedigree which were lots of my doubles and triples. So I have just a small amount of experience....
  8. Wow. Are you late to the party. Go back about six pages and read from there. From my end things have been offered and refused, so we learned. Now let's get back to talking about the market and bubbles.
  9. By the way, we adjusted the prices on the site earlier today. Quick! Go look and see so you can yell at me some more.... Seriously, if this is what's happening, then might as well cave and go with the flow....sigh.....
  10. Didn't realize it was a boardie, well, I apologize for my strong comments. But I do think its even more silly for someone who knows the markets well to try and sell 10 at a time, for that high a price. Well either they've been selling or he opted to sell less because now there's just two. I wouldn't be surprised if they sold....
  11. It will burn speculators who will learn or disappear. Either way the market becomes more solid. The housing bubble is nothing like this. Back from a quick cafe trip. It was yummy! Now, to the above: The problem we seem to have here is that it appears (and I could be wrong so again don't jump on me) that many of the comments here are coming from potential speculators. Let's have more fun: If a comic is in a slab and graded, is it a comic?
  12. Off to dinner now. I'll catch up with you guys later....
  13. Now we're getting somewhere. The most disturbing thing is that it might turn lots of potential fans and collectors off and ruin future chances for promising books and ideas.
  14. Which is the right reason, and you're correct....it is exciting....but only if you're not the last guy holding the books. Okay, I said it. It's like the housing bubble of 2007. The object was to flip the house before it burst and not be the last guy holding the house.
  15. Fair enough. But here is his last e-mail to me which might indicate the answer (jeez I hate all this stuff again): Joe - Honestly, have nothing to say that hasn't already been said. I don't want any comics. I don't want anything from you. It's done. You haven't listened to me prior to this, but I'm doing you a favor by telling you to say something nice in the forum and walk away. You are up against everyone in there and will not win. Say, my apologies and goodnight and be done with it. Otherwise, they are going to keep this up all night. Your decision... Ryan Now let's talk about the other point I was making, which is more important.
  16. A couple of things: 1.) Just wanted to give you the denouement of our tiff with Ryan back there: I tied to call him last night as you all saw, with no result. I waited all day for him to call me, and he didn't so at about 7:10 est I tried again. Same result. Which is I suppose unfortunate after I decided to take the advice of the good folks who chimed in on the subject, including the "chucks and sucks" group and then go one better by offering the entire original deal. So draw your own conclusions. From my standpoint, it's lesson(s) learned, apologies offered, and that ship has sailed. 2.) Much more important stuff: I am worried. What about? Read the last few pages of posts here. See anything disturbing? You should. Now, before I get into my thesis, you need to know that I am aware that as a dealer I'm sitting on a very tall fence with very sharp pickets. So is every other dealer out there and it is a no-win situation. Now the thesis: Welcome to the early 1990s. What you are seeing and maybe even participating in is exactly the thing that led to troubles in the comics market 20 years ago. Everything is being based on the collectable value of an item while ignoring (or at least minimizing) the artistic value. Before you all jump down my back again for saying something that might be unpopular, think about it. This is the type of situation that makes me really really nervous about the market. What are your thoughts?
  17. At this time I'm gonna hit the hay. I left Ryan the option of calling and talking later today when everyone is hopefully awake. I hope he does. Anyway, thanks all for listening and good night for now.
  18. I see I have been promoted to "hobbyist". A step up indeed....
  19. Yes, but having a virtual keyboard without any raised surfaces makes it that much more difficult to text effectively without paying attention to your typing. Heck, I have enough trouble typing with a regular keyboard! Incidentally, not to change the subject, but for anyone who follows the markets, you'll note that everyone got washed out today on Apple options as the market pegged the stock to the $500 strike price. We're expecting some big things on the 23rd, so the wise investor may want to divert some funds earmarked for comics into Apple because there may be some very interesting movement in the shares after the earnings report. We expect it will be a significant upside surprise. but I digress.....
  20. You'd need to have eight arms to make a phonecall at the same time!
  21. Oh...banana...got it! Just a bit slow right now....OY. Wait a sec....how do you do that and have a computer in your hand....and watch e-mails...and...and...? Wow. Acrobatic, no?
  22. Good reason. I prefer a nice Scotch on the rocks.
  23. Well, I had never heard of this guy until tonight, and O...M...G!!! Some of that stuff is just absolutely NONSENSE of the highest quality. Good grief!
  24. Unable to figure out what the emoticons mean. What's the banana have to do with anything?
  25. A.) I'm at home, and b) I wish I WAS in Hawaii, and c) why aren't YOU in bed instead of being on here? See? It's what all the fashionable fans do at 3 a.m.
