  1. I completed a deal for a big silver age key from David, and it was a great experience the whole way through.   The book looked even better in person, and arrived perfectly packaged.  I would happily work with him again. Thanks David!!

  2. I have an Marvel Spotlight 5 CGC 8.0 white pager, and the microchamber paper shifted downwards, so now it is visible (no damage to the case or anything like that). My question is, would I be able to get this reholdered to have the paper put back in place (or a new paper?) without risking it regraded and getting a different grade or page quality designation? I know reholder questions are asked all the time, but I haven't seen any regarding this, and maybe it is a unique situation since I assume the cover of the book would have to be opened to replace or reset the paper.

I know it isn't an issue to keep it like this, other then it being a bit of an eye sore for my OCD self.

So when is ASM1 going to pick up some steam now that AF15 has gone into the stratosphere :Rocket:

as someone who recently picked one up to pair with my AF15, I'm hoping immediately ..But in all seriousness, if $40k at the moment barely gets you in the door for  a low grade AF15, but it can still get you a really clean 6-7.0 ASM 1, I can see more and more people jumping to an ASM 1 instead.

I can see speculators who think they missed the AF15 train move on to the "next best" Spider-Man book, thinking maybe the AF15 run up is not going to continue much longer and there are now higher percentage gains to be had on an ASM 1, and I can also see  real collectors in the market who would now prefer a really clean ASM 1 versus a "beat up" AF15 for the same money.

I wonder if it is a similar dynamic with Action Comics 1 and Superman 1, but I imagine given how incredibly scarce those books are and the orders of magnitude more expensive they are, probably  not a relevant comparison.

Anyway, these are just my own unsubstantiated thoughts on what I think could possibly happen next, and I may be very wrong in all of this, and I'm just happy to have both :)

  4. Hi everyone,

not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I was curious if anyone has any opinions/thoughts on how rare (or common) white pages are on this book? On the AF15 thread I have learned that it's apperently extra rare for that particular book, not just books from the early 60s in general (Someone posted  a link where it claimed less then 25 were labeled as white pages).   At least anecdotally, from what I've seen (even just scrolling through this thread) white pages seem to not be as rare for ASM 1s, and that logically makes sense since there are more ASMs in the census and the book is a few months "newer".

Oh, and here is my temporary entry to the club, however I sold it book a few months ago and have an upgrade on the way, which I will excitedly share pics of once I complete the transaction (and yes, the upgrade does have white pages :) although for me that was a secondary bonus, as for my collection I personally value other factors of how a book looks/presents first,  and as long as the PQ is better than light tan I'm ok)

  5. thank you everyone for your very thoughtful responses on my NOOB white pages question, and I apologize if I started a heated debate. Definitely not my intention, and I appreciate everyone's input. I think the fundamental challenge is that these books aren't like stocks where you can clearly track price trends and every share of the same company is worth the same. Every book, even in the same grade and the same page quality, has some variation in appearence/etc, and every collector values some characteristics or defects more then others. Add to that the  the variables  of when and where the book is sold (Heritage, ebay, Instagram), and it makes it even more challenging to attribute which specific factor contributed to a specific price at any given time.

For example on the Heritage auction this weekend, I saw two X-men 1 6.0s sell for basically the same amount, but one of them had a Stan Lee signature, and the other didn't. With just that information one would maybe think that Stan Lee signatures don't add any value to major keys, when in actuality  they usually do (Note:I'm absolutely not trying to start another seperate debate on if Stan Lee should sign keys or not ) . But when you look at each book, at least in my opinion the SS copy looked much more tan and presented worse then the unsigned copy of the same grade, so the prices made more sense to me.  However, that subjective eye appeal isn't captured in any concrete way like grade number or page quality, which I guess is another thing that makes this hobby fun (at least for me).

Anyway, thanks again for all the responses, that is why I love this forum!

bear in mind that the insane 5.5 price was certainly connected to the very hard to find white pages. a similar looking owwp or c/ow copy would not likely have pulled that price. still, all prices very strong now for this book as we all know. lets see if non-heritage auctions also provide similar numbers.

By rare do you mean rare for AF15s specifically, or for most books from around this time in general? Do white pages typically command a big premium for key books from this era? Sorry for the ignorant questions, I just havent really followed page quality sales deltas much, but would love to learn more.

  7. I purchased an MS5 recently, and when I got it in the mail today i saw that the interior liner cgc puts inbetween the cover and interior pages shifted so its now visible (it wasnt like that in the auction photos). The seller says it most likely shifted during shipping,  but is also being  very responsive and offering a refund if I am unhappy. Before i decide what to do,  I had a few questions i was hoping people may know the answers to:

    1. what exactly is this sheet?

    2. has anyone had any experience with something like this happening? is it a cause for concern or a fairly common occurence?

    3. any way to get it to slide back without opening and reslabbing? I suppose i could try tapping it to go back in place, but I am hesitant bacause i dont enjoy hitting my books againt a hard surface, haha

  8. Bought a fairly big book from Steve (Avengers 1) and the transaction was flawless.  I paid in the evening the book was shipped literally the morning after, and delivered to me in a very well packaged, secure box shortly after.  Would not hesitate to buy from again. Thanks Steve! :)

Yeah, prices are maybe falling a bit

I probably missed a data point or something, but GPA shows that the last 7.0 sale was $204k just in mid november, so wouldn't this latest $242k sale for the chipped 7.0 indicate prices are actually still heavily increasing?

  10. Hi everyone,

I sold off my card collection years ago, but am toying with the idea of picking a few key cards up.  if anyone is interested in trading (or partial cash/trade) key rookie or auto cards of MJ or Kobe for key comics (see books I have in the link below), feel free to message me and maybe we can work something out.

  11. Yesterday this SS Daredevil 1 4.0 sold for 50% more then the previous non SS 4.0, which sold for $4800 just a few weeks ago,  before the Charlie Cox news. I know Stan Lee signatures on silver keys carry a premium, so it's not an apples to apples comparison, but a 50% premium seems pretty high, so maybe the MCU news was a factor as well ???
