  1. for sure, as we will never know what CGC's standards are. all we can do is have discussion's like this and try and get a ball park figure. this has been a great discussion, and again, thanks to all that chimed in. like I said earlier, if there "is" a certain point drop given to a detached centerfold, I would think it would have to apply evenly across a spectrum of grades without said defect. Thanks ZZUTACK & GRENDELBO for showing us those examples.
  2. Thanks for all the input people. I'll fix this problem in the morning with my staple gun.
  3. well you're comparing two different things here. of course anyone would be pizzed if they bought a raw 7.0 and found the centerfold was detached, and not disclosed. buying a 7.0 CGC graded with a detached centerfold is another thing. Would I buy a graded 7.0 with a detached center fold. No.
  4. And this is where the debate/argument would come in. I don't think you can have different grade deductions for structurally different books. Bringing a 9.0 detached centerfold down to 2.5 is a 6.5 difference. Taking a 5.0 book with a detached centerfold down to 2.5 is 2.5 difference. Regardless, it's still the same defect. A detached center fold.
  5. No one can show you something that does not exist. If you look at the Overstreet Grading guides ( with a grain of salt ) they are at 2.5 with a detached C.F. in edition 2. So what's puzzling is if a book is a 9.0 structurally, or a 7.5, or 5.5. they all get put in the 2.5 category? I don't think so.
  6. this is a tough call. I don't think you can give a structurally graded book say in 5.0 the same grade. the question is how much should get knocked off? I would say a full point at least.
  7. A friend of mine, and boardie has a CGC 7.0 with a detached center fold.
  8. Structurally this book is around a 5.0 but the C.F. is detached.
  9. The pile from last year was already counted, ticketed, and photographed for the contest. It's long gone.
  10. Was it air then? Maybe a really bad fart that you breathed in, or something like that? Might have been. I was delusional for two weeks.
  11. Thanks. I felt guilty I was not able to launch it. I get a kick out of running it, and irritating everyone for a few days.
  12. So many cards and letters have been pouring in ( eye roll ), thought I'd chime in here about my annual contest that did not launch last year. The contest was all set up. Prizes boxed up and ready to go, and tons of new animated giph's to bust everyone's chops. I got sick. Very sick. Not going into detail, but I'm fine now, no worries. Water won't drown me, fire won't burn me, and the ground won't hold me. I was going to launch it after the New Year, but stuff just kept popping up, and I kept putting it off. I think it's a bit late now to call it a Christmas contest, so I think I'll just hold the stuff here till this Dec, as I think the spirit of the holiday is long gone. Anyway, I know you dorks been losing sleep so thought I would just ease you're minds, the contest will still go on.
  13. Quality control removing an employee after multiple warnings.
  14. This is a tough one to grade. Sharp looking copy with great color but a few problems. The inside front cover has three spots on the lower white area. Probably coffee. I'm trying to track the culprit down now. The back cover has an area on the left side edge near the bottom where the white is dulled, probably from some water or something getting on it. No gloss in the area. Kind of have to look at it, at an angle. About 1" x ". Other wise book has great color and eye appeal. Nice pages and well attached.
  15. Another one that was packed away for over 45 years. A bit better than most of the ones I was picking up at shops way back then, when you just wanted to read them. Book has a few spine ticks and some color rub on the bottom edge front cover. Has a light paper bend on the back cover about 1" in from the edge running up from the bottom about 2". Book has excellent color and eye appeal. Center fold and cover are well attached.
  16. I ran this through once before, but am going through tons of my books for future resale. Behold Groot you puny ants. Thoughts. This copy has severe staple tears. Top staple is detached on the back cover only. Still hanging on the front. Looks like some tape/paper pulled on the back cover. Lots of creasing and wear. 2" tear outer edge back cover. See pic. 3/4" splits top and bottom cover. No large pieces out, and the centerfold is well attached. Interior is really nice compared to the cover.
