  1. It's s fun problem to have, but it does borderline on work! I give all 50 cent books to my brother so he can schlep them around at local shows. Now I just need to convince Weird Paper to ditch the dollar books too and free up more space. I'd take that sweet stack of TOS you have and set fire to the rest! If the Indy boxes had more Eclipse and Pacific, and not Image and Valiant. I might have been tempted though.....
  2. Ed, I've thoroughly enjoyed you blog here- the topic I'm most eagerly waiting for is your grading/pricing philosophy- you've always priced your offerings very well and I'm curious about the short and long term strategy behind it.
  3. Ed, do you use a small postal scale to weigh packages? ( I might just hold the record for being the first person on the boards Ed ever sold to, though technically that's not entirely correct, as it was when we were in college, and CGC did not exist yet. I still have an X-Men #6, 33, and a Defenders #1 that I got from Ed in the early 90's. I remember seeing his almost complete Spidey run that he kept in a footlocker I believe in the dorm. I also kept my comics in a footlocker.)
  4. Howdy, I've been pretty lax about posting to my CAF, or posting updates about my CAF, so I finally have caught up and posted the back-log of stuff I've accumulated. 20 new (old) pieces overall- Stuff from all over the map, including: Comic Art: Colan Detectives, Sid Green Elongated Man, Colan TOD, Perez DHOKF, Dr. Strange- more. Strip Art: Modesty Blaise, Axa, Mother Goose and Grimm, Roy Rogers Illustration art: Hugo Award Winning artist John Picacio published Elric illustration. CAF Recent Stuff best, Sean
  5. Howdy, Just added: Classic Kubert Joe Kubert Viking Prince Page from B&B #24 (1959)
  6. Howdy, a rare update for me in what has been a very slow year: 1. PMS Paul Smith the Golden Age #4- pivotal page from the end of the book, thanks to Sean W, who used the money to get lei'd in Hawaii. http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1152172 2. Nick Fury Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. #10, pg 11- classic Silver age page http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1154995 3. and a Power Man and Iron Fist page from 1980: http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1154994
  7. Howdy, Delurking from my semi-retired/self-imposed collecting exile- only something from my grail want list could do that- Art from the first dozen or so comics I had as a kid. Courtesy of Mr. Burkey I've acquired: my fourth page from Marvel Team-Up #25: Marvel Team Up #25 and my FIRST page from Amazing Spiderman #154: Amazing Spiderman #154
  8. Great Thread y'all- I would make one comment going back to what Robert Frey was saying about some of the valuations- esp. as it pertains to non-auction or hearsay prices: I'd listen to what Robert Frey has to say about the "true" market price on many things any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. I encourage him to weigh in on the specifics.
  9. Made a bunch of recent updates to my CAF: Howdy, I've not been too active in the hobby this year, yet somehow I still manage to stumble into new art here and there. I collect mostly vintage published comic art (late 60's to early 80's) and of particular interest to me are the first dozen or so comics I had as a kid, especially those that I had BEFORE I was actively collecting them. The ones you get in an xmas stocking or the grocery store or a garage sale seemingly at random. I recently got this page from Thor #261, that I got for xmas 1977. The first Thor comic I"d ever seen. This makes 3 pages I've picked up. I also posted the note with a little cartoon drawing from Steve F, who I guess works at Disney, cuz it's their stationary. Thor #261 Simonson/Dezuniga Equally exciting to me, are the 2 pages I got from Marvel Team Up #25, Spidey and DD fighting the Unholy Three. I remember my friend at school had a beat up copy, and I think I got it in a trade, probably involving Hot Wheels. I"d had another page from this issue that I got from Randy Martin ages ago, so its nice to add a couple more. My personal "rule" is I don't make a separate gallery room in my CAF unless I have at least 3 pieces in it. So now the Thor and MTU 25 get their own dedicated room. Here's the 2 MTU pages: 1. Marvel Team Up #25 Jim Mooney 2. Marvel Team Up #25 Jim Mooney I've also got these other random but cool pieces recently: 1. Jackson "Butch" Guice "Test Page" of Avengers- done Neal Adams Style, and maybe some BWS thrown in- awesome panel of the Super-Adaptoid. Would like to hear the story behind it, if it was a try-out page for Marvel, or what? Butch Guice Neal Adams style Avengers Page 2. Savage Sword of Conan- the last issue of the mag, and it John Buscema inking himself, which was rare SSOC #235, last issue 3. Early Bronze Haunted Tank page, Russ Heath pencils and inks G.I. Combat #145 Haunted Tank 4. Early Bronze Dillin Worlds Finest page- Green Arrow World's Finest #210
  10. Thanks! I'll add that to my list of cover references- (thumbs u I flipped thru the Gerber books yesterday- but it all started to run together after awhile
  11. Howdy- posting outside of the OA thread because this might be more appreciated amongst the GA crowd: I just got this piece of original art, which I posted to my CAF page here: http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=991610 I'm sure you guys recognized Murphy Anderson's iconic 1998 Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide cover, but I spent a bit of time trying to compile a list of the covers that inspired, and I"m sure there's some I've overlooked, so suggestions are welcome. I posted them in the link above. The naked girl in test tube was a staple of pulps and comics in the GA, as are giant robots, giant brain's, and let's not forget action heroes!
  12. When I see a post like this, I'm always curious about the poster's own collection. What about it? Link? Yeah, this guy's a talker. I looked to see if he'd actually ever posted anything and found nada, just ridiculous comments about how he'd take a McFarlane Spidey cover over a Romita Spidey cover any day, McFarlane, this , McFarlane that, and he only buys one page of art every few years for 5-10K. Noobs- you may disregard said advice.
  13. Howdy, got this Jim Starlin Splash page today: and 9 other things recently from Wizard World Austin, with stuff from Al Williamson, Ralph Reese, Rich Buckler, Otto Messmer, Don Newton, and others with such titles as Wonder Woman, Avengers, Daredevil, Black Widow, Secret Agent X-9, the FF, the Spectre-all classic 60's and 70's art! See link below. Recent Acquisitions
  14. Howdy, another rare 2-fer for me, both by Buscema chronicling a certain Cimmerian. 1st.....the real head turner, a rather salacious page from Savage Sword of Conan #42 featuring a hapless bare breasted brunette, hung from the ceiling and whipped by a lusty African queen. http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=821661 Nudity, bondage, violence, overtones of lesbian-fu, all the proper ingredients for a supermarket magazine rack page turner when we were kids. This was during that brief period that Marvel tried to compete with Warren and Heavy Metal in the more lusty aspects of R-rated material, besides the requisite hacking and hewing of limbs and skulls that we had come to expect of Conan. 2nd..... a page from Conan #46, the only issue that Joe Sinnott inked from the series over Buscema. I got it in trade from Greg O. via CAF, so thank you Greg, and thank you Bill for making a place for it to happen. http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=821604 thanks for looking!
  15. Howdy, For over 25 years, Neal Adams has been my favorite comic artist, even before I was really conscious of the creators behinds the comics. Once I was a more sophisticated comic collector, I pursued lots of the the Adams books, both Marvel and DC, especially X-Men and Deadman, but it was Deadman that I always found to be the most individually striking. (it goes without saying the Kelly Jones restyling was patently awful, IMO ) Finally, I have a piece of published comic art worthy of my obsession, Neal over Neal, and a page that has been off the market for quite some time, if it ever was. http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=819651 oh, and I also got a Russ Heath G. I . Combat page. Nothing earth shattering there, but GCD says it's all Russ, and I"m thinking it's someone else's inks, and it's really bothering me. I have my suspicions, but there's other War Horses around here that might know for sure. http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=819643
  16. (thumbs u Glad those ducks cleared customs! Wouldn't want them to run aFOUL of some ministry of healthy poultry quarantine or nuthin!
  17. A stellar week for me: 1. a very well rendered Pussycat page with a coffee drinking robot blowing a gasket over the ever curvaceous Pussycat- Kudos to Anthony Snyder! http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=726563&GSub=44119 2. AND, most important art day of several years (to me) I got a page of Marvel Team Up #11. This is the 16th page I've picked up in the last 13 years. This was the FIRST Marvel Comic I ever had as a kid, and I know each and every panel by heart. Spidey and the Inhumans! http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=726580&GSub=56055 if anyone knows the whereabouts of the 3 pages i"m missing PLEASE let me know! One sold at the HA live auction in SD in 2003 and disappeared. One sold on ebay in 1998 and wasn't properly labeled as a MTU page, but as a Spectacular page. The page one splash I've never seen. If I could put one book back together in my whole life, it would be this one! but wait....there's one more thing: I just got this gem of a page, one that I had coveted for a loooong time: http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=727883 I consider this one of pivotal story arcs in the Avengers as they began to hit there stride in the late 60's with John Buscema's pencils. The first encounter with Ultron, planting the seeds of Hank Pym's schizophrenic transformation into Yellow Jacket, the coming of The Vision, and many other classics. George Klein's lucious inks really set the bar for Palmer later in the run. Many thanks to the indefatigable Mike Burkey! A page I will cherish always.

I have comics in my collection that I bought from Ed 2 months ago, and 20 years ago!
  19. I do, I have very nice friends, I'm very lucky ...I also picked up some artwork...this was my favorite...I know it doesn't belong here, but I thought I'd share anyway:) That belongs here just fine. Sharon - this OA is wonderful. Thanks for sharing it here! wow. Number of gals that collect GA: Pretty darn few. Number of gals that collect vintage OA, ummm let's see: recalling 5 San Diego Con's, 12 years of comicart-l yahoo group, CAF, excluding Jeff Jones on the technicality of her sex change, and on or two spouses that humor their OA obsessed husbands by getting the odd page or sketch here and there, or allowing themselves to be art mules- to get in line for sketches and commissions at cons........=1.
  20. I doubt it was for a portfolio, but it occurs to me that it might have been used for an interior illustration in a novel. Some of his more polished work was printed as such. Maybe an Arkham book? Nevertheless, Finlay did do some rather detailed work, even for the low paying pulps, and the rather salacious subject matter of this cat fight kinda lends itself to that market. And speaking of pulps.........
  21. the winner of the ponscon I grading contest [which brought with it both acclaim AND a big trade book on king kirby] thanks you for the props. sure looks purdy in that slab. Does it have a name written on it anywhere? I'm wondering if it's the copy I sold to Mr. Bedrock a few years back. i bought it from ricky, so the chances are high that it is your old book. I hope it wasn't ours. We had it graded as a 4.0!!!!
  22. Howdy, updated my CAF with 8 bronze pages I got a couple months ago, but was too lazy to post, including a Byrne FF page, Buscema Thor, Defenders, Spectacular Spidey, and other Bronze etc. Some of it is tradeable, just see my want list. http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryNew.asp?GCat=3300
  23. Well I got my refund and I got an apology PM from Conner, so I see no need to pile on. I replied with a little advice that mirrors a lot of what Sharon and others have said. I consider the matter resolved.
  24. Sergio does make a good point that there is a distinction to be made between probation as a seller versus a buyer. Just as Ebay has now altered their feedback system to distinguish between buyer and seller feedback, I would think it would be informative to know if those on the probation list were placed there for buyer or seller reasons. I think it matters because any effort to reconcile will look very different if even possible. If Buyer A fails to pay Seller B, so Seller B sells that item to to Buyer C, how does Buyer A make amends? Most assume the probation list is for sales infractions, but I believe JokerFish was for failure to come thru as a buyer, at least that's what he did to me and I reported it to the thread when others had a similar experience.
