  1. COMPLETE AT LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    streaks-1.jpg

I find it so weird that the #16 needed to complete your run was sitting in some guys house in Longview WA all this time. It was one of three golden age comics he has had since the early 1960's. What are the odds?

Incredible that it found its way to you considering a guy I met via Craigs list called me to let ke know he had a couple Golden Books he bought from the guy in Longview. I was able to make a deal for it, and just tossed it up on the boards to see what would happen. Funny how these things work out.

Now would one of you please find me a copy of Blue Circle Comics #3?

  2. Does anyone have a list or know a link to a comprehensive list of REH Conan stories published up through the 1970's?

I am hoping one exists so I don't have to do it!

Most of the originals were printed in Weird Tales 1932-1936.

Then some were reprinted in Avon Fantasy Reader in the 1940's.

The Gnome press hardcovers came next (7 of these).

Then those were reprinted (or maybe a few were) by Ace paperbacks in the 1950's.

Then the Lancer paperbacks in the 1960's.

The only other set I am aware of was the three book Red Nails, Hour of the Dragon, People of the Black Circle set that came out in the late 1970's.

I don't think Arkham had any Conan stories in the REH collections they put out, but I could be wrong.

Who has the scoop on all this?

  3. First, congrats on the pick-up! I've always thought that Weird Tales Dec 32 is one of the top 5 pulps and certainly as hard to find as any of the top 5. But....

    I'm confused!

For the last year (or two) I've been trying to find an outlet to move my high grade/killer copy and I can't seem to find anyone who is serious about carrying it in their auctions. I've even tried some private buyers but no-one seems to be willing to pay semi-serious money to own a high grade copy of this issue.

I'm not trying to troll for buyers with this post, just wondering why if this is a desirable pulp (and I think it is or should be!) can I not get someone to auction it on their site?

Maybe I need to wait until Conan is as hot as Avengers and then people will be knocking on the door....

Until then, I have a copy of this up for grabs if anyone wants to email or pm me ;):)

    Cheers

ComicLink has a Pulp section now. You can try selling it there at a fixed price. Or submit it to ComicLink for one of their featured auctions. They will happily take it!

  4. This should be in Hand in a couple days.

Probably the tuffest item I have ever tracked down outside of Blood is the Harvest!

Conans first Appearance anywhere "Phoenix on the Sword" Weird Tales December 1932

Great book! Congratulations. I love mine, it is one of the two items I own that I like the most (right next to my AF #15 CGC 2.0 blue).

  5. Now Brundage did not do a great Conan, but this is perhaps the worst rendition of Conan I have ever come across. The artist is not credited...from Avon Fantasy reader #8 from 1948.

Here is the same scene done by Brundage in 1934.

    Not exactly Frazetta is it....

  6. When I was a kid in the 80's they used to travel through Kansas City and set up in the middle of the mall. I never had any idea of when they would be there so if I showed up and they were there it was like an early X-mas. It was a great time to be a kid! I still come across an old bag with their logo now and again. I actually saved one for a memento!

Yep..Dragon's Lair was a huge part of growing up with comics for me. They came to the mall twice a year...Larry and Rose. A married couple that travelled in a van and set up at shows at malls. Great books and prices, loved the shows for years, it was by far the best comics event in Denver. My friends and I would save our money like mad for the two shows. Bought my first pre-code horror from them.

The red dragon bags were cool, long flap and all. I wish I still had one!

  7. Really pleased with my box of SA humor and romance from Comicsarefun. Great double decker box and all graded well. Great transaction.

I have to give kudos to the post office too. Despite all the holiday mail this thing arrived in five days via media mail. (CO to CA)

So pleased that these went to good home and will be enjoyed!

    Thanks!

    (thumbs u

  8. Love the FOOM. Had the Howard the Duck issue in 1976.

By the way, just finished the Solomon Kane and Bran Mak Morn books from the Del Ray series. Solomon Kane was great! I recommend the REH Kane stories to all Conan fans.

Next is Kull, then the new REH Del Ray horror stories book. Have you guys read this series? Very well done.

  9. To Gilbert's defense, I bought an AF15 from him over the summer, right before San Diego, and he delivered on time, as requested. I'm hoping that there isn't something sinister and that we hold hope for our fellow man...er teenager.

Probably the AF #15 I sold him right here on the boards (with the header cut out on page 1). He paid right away...had no problems. Nice guy.

  10. That was awesome. It is the first of it I have ever seen! Anyone know how many Crom adventures were printed and where???

Why the blond hair? Clearly the same world as Conan, I guess he did not want to get sued by using a black haired Cimmerian.

Loved the Tower and the Lions...clearly this guy had read his Howard. Though Conan would never go to the city jail "meekly".

Oustanding post award of 2008 goes to Theagenes! :takeit:

  11. I was going to stop after my two weekend threads went so well, but I have another set of new books to list! Most are X-Men (starting at #2) + some TTA, TOS and others. These are all new, not leftovers.

Prices will be agresssive low, wholesale all well under Overstreet.

Please no PM's today, as I am working and will not able to respond before the thread starts at 5-6 pm Pacific time today.

    Thanks!

  12. So come on, who won the Weird Tales with the first published Conan story on the last Comiclink auction hm? I was beat by $40 :(

Meanwhile, picked up a pile of pence copies for a tenner. They'll make perfect reading copies :)

    conanspence.jpg

I came in second place and was winning for a while at the end. Beat last second as expected. Thought it would hit $500.

  13. Usually not. I am guilty of piecing together a complete ASM run, but that is the only title of its kind for me. Instead, I try to focus on cool covers, rare books, good deals, favorites from my youth, high grades, and/or diversity. There are many titles that I have no general interest in, but truely enjoy owning a select issue or two. I recently bought a "Don Wilson of the Navy" comic with a silly ghost cover. It is a great book, but hunting down the rest of that series is the last thing I want to do.
