but one would assume you have the requisite knowledge and experience to make a reasonable estimate of both price and type/quality of restoration. And those skills have value, as does GPA and the graders notes.  And here we have a guy who knows so little that he wants get advice for free from people without knowing how to get notes, without realizing he should post a pic (at minimum) before asking.  The odds are that the notes will mean very little to him and that he is looking for free financial advice because he's not willing to put the time and money into learning.  I agree he should just auction it, or at minimum post it on ebay at a high price and see what kind of offers he gets.

He hasn't responded to my suggestion that he should get a GPA account,so we don't know yet if he's not willing to put the time/money into learning. I believe in trying to help those who are interested in the hobby learn more for obvious reasons. However if he is just trying to get free info for a quick sale, then good luck with all of that around here! lol

There is data but it's not comparing apples to apples. You would need data specific to C-1, with specifically the same resto. If GPA has a 4.0 C-1 with glue on spine is that the same equivalent value as CT and tear seals ? For me it's not. I think most buyers of resto books are looking for resto removal candidates. Even comparing CT to CT data is difficult because not all CT is created equal. Of course, the OP wants all the information from us for free, doesn't even want to spend a few bucks on the grader's notes so I agree with your inference on buying a subscription.

True. You probably won't find the exact same 4.0 C-1,but there is more than enough data to make an educated valuation. I do it all the time when I'm buying/selling restored books, and there usually isn't anywhere near the data that there is on this JLA 1. Many of us value potential buys of blue label books using gpa and the data rarely lines up on those either. So many factors. Color saturation, gloss, page quality, cover registration, etc. One blue label 4.0 can look vastly different from another. But we do make an educated valuation regardless of if there is an identical sale. Same holds true here.

  3. Adventure Comics 96 8.5 VF+ OW/W pages San Francisco copy slight(p) restoration  $750.00  $650.00

Restoration is cover cleaned and a spine split sealed. The book was slabbed but I cracked it out to further enjoy. I honestly have no idea why this was only an 8.5. It's nearly perfect. Anyway it's a great way to get a SF ped on the cheap!

  4. Blue Beetle 10 1.5 FR/GD $350.00  SOLD

Fantastic Patenaude cover. Cover detached and spine is about halfway split. There is a piece off of the back cover at the top that is still with the book, just loose. Tan inside covers. Pages are still supple and cream to off white. Cover still presents nicely. Would look great in the new slab! No tape or restoration.

    Fantastic Four #3  - 4.0 (Q) $350

Some fool thought it would be a good idea to add some glue in the top 2" of the spine. This has caused a 2" spine split on either side of the glued down spine section, you can see it through the .12 circle.

Staples are reasonably still attached, book is complete.

This is otherwise a very solid book. A press might even take it to a 5.0 (Q)

It sure looks great in a mylar.

  7. Very sad news indeed. I hope his family is doing ok.

I always enjoyed seeing John at the Chicago show every year. His set up was legendary. Just looking thru the binders full of color scans of his inventory was a treat. One year, he had nearly the entire Church Zip run for sale. I'll never forget it. That show will not be the same without him,nor will the hobby. RIP John.
