Opportunity and preparedness all come together. I’m asking myself how I can be ready because I know the day will come that I will have a chance to own some original art I just hope I have enough money to make it happen.some fun things to know about your strip…
1. It originally published on March 28, 1986 https://www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobbes/1986/3/28
2. It was rerun during Bill Watterson's first Sabbatical on July 26, 1991 https://www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobbes/1991/07/26
3. Hobbes’ hands have pads on them. This was only during his early years. Watterson decided to stop drawing them. Most of the times his paws just didn’t show the palms.
4. Hobbes’ head changed to a new shape eventually.
5. Second frame - Hobbes breaks the 4th wall - this is debatable but he is looking directly at the reader.
Again, congrats on the score.
I’d love to see detailed photos on here or if you have them posted anywhere share the link. Can you share?

Wow. That has a lot going on.
Bart was certainly ripe for the rip off. Is irrelevant attitude was begging to be cameos.
thanks for the tip.

I absolutely like interior appearances too. What is the details on this one?
I can see Hobbes (3 up from Archie) Calvin is probably going to have an existential crisis since Hobbes is in live action mode around all the other people.

Hey. Reviving this thread for a moment. There is a collector on Reddit who has been working to collect cameos. visit his profile to find other posts and lists

Great news. 1992 Litho unsigned for auction (not mine)

Seller is authentic.

Does that seem strange to have $400k “sitting out” like that?
where is the armed guard?!

His art has already been promised to Ohio University, IIRC. Regardless, the market won't ever be flooded with his originals.
I’ve looked for it on their website but I know Bill Watterson placed his entire collection on deposit there.

As for gifting… the strip just listed on HA was personalized to Lee. Is that Lee Salem?
(Edit: I read the description on HA and it is Lee Salem.)From my position that is double star power in the C&H universe. Sure Garry T was a big name but he was outside the lore and legend of Bill Watterson.
my estimate is it will crest over $500k without BP.
Who else wants to stake their guesstimate?

I was eager to see this final price too. And to see a litho go head to head with a colored daily gifted to another legend was interesting.
Did anyone else notice the ratio of the two items?
10:1 daily to litho. -

Peanuts collectors, and it sure seems like there are more and more Peanuts cover chasers, are largely unaware of this special cover Schulz did to honor Yellow Kid (the only color cover in the run) for Inks: Cartoon and Comic Art Studies. Inks is not a fanzine but an official publication of the Ohio State University cartoon library (Inks was funded by a generous donation of Charles and Jeannie Schulz):
Calvin & Hobbes collectors can't chase many C&H covers on comic related publications because there aren't that many, but of the ones that exist this may be the grail they most want to locate (but usually can't):
And Bone collectors, who don't mind B&W at all, probably have no idea this cover exists:
They are part of the complete run from v. 1 no. 1 to v. 4 no. 3 (12 total issues) of Inks: Cartoon and Comic Art Studies I'm offering here today (plus a bonus exhibit catalogue).
There is a grand total of one copy of an issue of Inks on the CGC Census, not surprisingly the v.1 no. 1 Calvin & Hobbes cover.
Does anyone here have a run of these? These are loaded with articles on comic and cartoon history, academic books reviews, etc. Best for someone who really likes to dig deep into comic history and knows you'll never see a set like this again (or for a dealer who wants to be out in front of the still growing tsunami of nostalgia C&H and Peanuts which is going to make rare covers like these increasingly desirable as people realize they exist).
I'm calling condition on average "fine." As you can see in photos, there is some minor yellow spotting on some issues. No rips or folds. Grade would quickly go up if you hired someone, like the paper conservator I use for woodblock prints, to eliminate the spots - a surprisingly inexpensive undertaking for something like this which is printed with standard inks in b&w.
$300 (inclusive of postage) or I will consider offers.
I’ll take it.

That would be cool. I'm glad to have his autograph for a fraction of the cost.
Do you mean you have a signed litho?
If so, What number?

Auction started on eBay for signed book #1.
starting bid $499, or make an offer.

Here is a decent list of owned items

It would be fantastic to know where all 1,000 lithographs are.

As I started collecting I didn’t take into account the cost of display and storage materials. After I tracked down a “very uncommon” item I bought a fire safe.
it just dawned on me - Owning an original might make me a nervous wreck. I probably would build a panic room just for the safety and security. LOL.
I’d still get it. I just need to budget for the armed guard.
