  1. For me, the advantages for sending to CSG for a PC card that I have no intention of selling is that: 1. the slabs are beautiful; 2. they are cheap compared to PSA or BGS. I usually send economy and request subgrades as I like the subgrades for my PC. The quality and feel of the slabs is premium. At the moment, their resell value is not much as most of the public aren't even aware of them yet, their slabs are only starting to appear in the market and most buyers are still approaching them with a wait and see approach. Sending economy is cheaper but they come with a long turnaround time. I don't mind a long turnaround time as the cards are going to my PC and not intended for resell. If I were reselling, if it were high $$$ I would send to PSA atm or if lower to mid tier you can consider SGC. I believe over time they will continue to gain recognition and climb up value wise as a grader.
  2. Agree. As an old collector, and talking to true hobbyists, most collectors will prefer true BGS 9.5 and pristine 10 over a PSA 10. It's only those flipping that like the PSA 10's. In time, this will flip and old PSA 10's will be lesser value. I dont even buy the old PSA slabs anymore because I don't trust their tens. Changing their standard of grading is a ding on the company its like saying they were too lenient and now their tightening up. What does that say about their old grades? Ive seen so many PSA 10s that are so off centered. In fact, I own a few. I'd prefer CSG/BGS true 9.5's and tens over PSA anytime for my PC.
  3. anyone bringing their CSG slabs to the DCS this July? Hoping to see CSG slabs at the show. Going to bring a few of mine. Looking to pick up some Tim Duncan's for PC or Devin Vassell and move some cards too.
  4. its probably going to be a little higher than their walkthrough from what Im hearing from my LCS's that attends the nationals basing on PSA. They say its not even worth it to fall in line for PSA you'll be paying way lot more than super express unless you're wanting something really $$$$$ graded.
  5. Just curious as what y'all think will happen at the nationals and will you be going to the Nationals? I'm from Dallas and has been in the last two DCS's and the first one I went too in March was wild with a lot of buying and peak prices for cards. Last Card show this May was more trading than buying as people are kinda on guard I guess because of the dip in the market. There's an other DCS this July. Ive never been to the nationals and want to experience it. Ive already booked a hotel since we plan to visit some family there anyway. For those whose been there and knowing there's a prior card show in your area before the nationals, what would you do? Is it easy to move things in the nationals by being a buyer in a prior show? I heard cards will be at premium prices in the nationals. appreciate any input whether from those who have been there or just in general what your thoughts would be and why you think so.
  6. Thank you, I will check your website out. I guess I am more of a collector and investor. I rarely sell but when I do like I did in last two Dallas card shows, they tend to be in the high ends. I do want to try out getting a table next year though as I get to understand the hobby more. I have a huge capital of cards from busting cases in my heyday. I do want to get into vintage basketball and last card show moved some Jordan and Lebron to acquire fleer Jordan PSA 7 RC and a couple of other PC high end stuff. My next goal is the bird/johnson/erving graded card. My cards are mostly modern so the fleer Jordan is actually my first vintage. I plan to diversify my portfolio of cards and move a lot kore of my moderns. I want to acquire graded vintage cards of a lot of the HOFers I admired ie Russell, chamberlain, Alcindor, Willis reed, Maravich, Havlicek, Jerry West, Dave bing, mychal Thompson, Barkley, Stockton, Malone etc
  7. I collected more prolific in the early 2000's but started sporadic from 97. Stopped in 07 with the exception of a box or two in 2010 and 2014. Just got back from hibernation last NOvember so have a stockpile of cards from collecting and busting cases and boxes. So most of my cards ar from that era. I have everything from low ends to high ends and have started moving into one of my dreams which was to collect vintage cards. I moved some cards to acquire a PSA 7 Fleer JOrdan RC. Now my next goals are Bird/Johnson/Erving RC graded and a couple of HOFers that are graded. I feel that it is insane how the market is paying $$$$ for ultra modern RCs while these rare vintage RCs of HOFers go for equal to or much less than that. The potential for a drop off on the ultra modern vs the potential for continued increase in vintage just makes me want to move more cards toward vintage. For those who have been collecting vintage for a long time, any advice you can give for someone wanting to add more vintage to his collection? I am scared of fakes so I usually just buy from LCS I trust and also graded cards from reputable companies.
  8. Ive seen a lot of frustration posts here but I have a lot more patience for them and like you understanding where their coming from. they are, even though their parent company has been in operation for a long time, a brand new company. It takes time to develop routines and protocols, train staff and even then there will be a lot of challenges facing a company. Im in the medical community and has been part of two brand new hospitals in the past twenty years. It takes a lot of ups and downs to get to where you're at. People nowadays are in the, "I want now" generation. It doesn't work that way sometimes. You always think of the end product. In the end, are you satisfied with it? So far, I do like the end product. I've received one batch so far and should be getting a second one soon. I have confidence in their product but doesn't limit it to just theirs. I also send to PSA and BGS. To me, it's always has been about the card, not the slab. I send cards to get things verified given the proliferation of fakes and to put a semblance of condition we can agree on by involving a third party (grading company) when we try to make deals. I likke it that they amde this chat forum as much as you do and their facebook group. one of the more active forums. I used to be a regular at the old Beckett forums during my trading heyday. It feels like a dead forum now smh.
  9. agree with you on this. I like my slabs clear. Makes the cards the focus not the slab. This is the reason not really into HGA. I acquired a black refractor RC in SGC slab. cant even tell where the border of the card is without close inspection lol. I thin k SGC is better for vintage or white bordered cards. But pass for me, just not for me, I agree they are legit, just not my style.
  10. Outside of PSA, BGS and CSG the other groups dont really appeal to me. Its just my personal choice, the black tuxedo slab I just cant find appealing. Maybe for older vintage cards or topps card, white cards that may look good in the slab but I have a black refractior RC in SGC and not really digging it. Not really a fan of HGA slabs.
  11. appreciate the advice. I'm not hurrying it as I want to do this right so I plan to do get a table maybe late fall or even next year. I love the hobby and have collected since 97 but has just recently gotten active again, so am blessed with a lot of card capital including high ends. What do you guys do for pricing? What I lately am doing is just observing market patterns at ebay and by visiting LCS and watching how they price. Ive been constantly building contacts during cardshows and love to talk hobby with some of the dealers. I love that each of them have so many experiences and tidbits about the hobby. I also am using 130point.com but sometimes I find depending on venue, wifi can be real slow. I downloaded sports card investor and card ladder and have been learning to use those too. The challenging part is finding comps for the SSPs or cards you rarely see as I have cards pre panini that rarely pop out, some I intend to move. What I did last time was in the Dallas Card show was to just walk around and see if I can find similar cards and see how much they go for. Sometimes, I just cant find any, i.e. Tim Duncan 99-00 Fleer Tradition supreme court parallel /20 ( a very hard to find card and parallel). Someone suggested to post it at ebay with a high asking price and see what kind of offers I get to see a kind of valuation for it. I also want to start with something I know which would be basketball pre panini and maybe familiarize myself from there and slowly diversify. I do have a PC and would like to make this like a collector/investor goal. Thank you all for the great advice!
  12. appreciate the advice. I've gone to a few shows and have enjoyed them and was thinking of trying out the experience of being on the other end. I enjoyed seeing so many nice cards and talking with other collectors and learning from others.
  13. please make it scanable like PSA :-)
  14. have some slabs slowly trickling in from PSA, BGS and hopefully soon from CSG. have tons of raw cards too from mid ends to high ends. Gone to three card shows so far, twice with Dallas Card SHow and once with a smaller fort worth card show. been consistently building a profile in IG, talking with people and making deals locally, IG and in shows. am enjoying this card shows a lot and am debating on getting a table in a small show like fort worth, irving, frisco, etc with plans of once a lot more experienced trying out the dallas card show. planning to start next year. any tips for those who have done it? what to watch out for, how to comp, price stuff (I use 130point.com, ebay and sports card investor)? cards to stay away from? I usually stick to what I know which is basketball.
  15. Each grading company may have their different standards. Thats my issue with PSA though I still send to them. Ive seen PSA 10's that are off centered especially with the earlier cards. It felt like they padded their starts before the boom so more people will send, and now they suddenly become very strict and rumours say controlling the population of tens. People will still send to them because of profits but as far as quality standards I trust BGS more and now starting to like CSG, thus sending my 6th batch this week.
  16. ive sent some with flaws so I can get an idea how they grade since most of the cards I sent go to my PC anyway. They all have subgrades. Five batches, first batch already back, second just entered and scheduled for grading and waiting on three more to be entered. Sending a 6th batch, mostly PC.
  17. Ive bought semi rigids from their sister company and it will arrive just that its not amazon, be patient, it will come. I wonder though if they clean the ones we send with our submissions and repack them *grin* , it's not that I care as other companies wont return either
  18. 6.5, ouch on the surface! BGS did that to me on my Tim Duncan rookie credentials,, what hurt was 9.5, 9.5, 9, 6.5 surface ughhhhhh
  19. dont really remember my first pack but i remember the first card I owned that started me to collect Tim Duncan was his Upper Deck Rookie card, and the first card that turned me to a serious collector was his topps chrome sports illustrated relic refractor /50
  20. Will you guys be there and if yes will there be on site grading or authentication? Hopefully, you guys will be on more local shows statewide as I really do like your slabs. I believe as more people see your slabs, it will get more recognition. I'm from Dallas, went to a small card show sponsored by Dallas Card Show in fort worth this week, couldn't see a single CSG slab. Expecting to see those pop out in the big show 450+ tables this May 20-23. I'll also be in the nationals hunting for more Tim Duncan and hoping some of the slabs I sent to you guys would be back then, some to keep, some to sell/trade :-)
  21. I submitted a Duncan diec cut prodigy refractor, and I have a lot more die cut cards I want to submit but kinda worried the cards would move in the slab. Do you guys do any extra feature or the slabs secure that the die cuts wont move in the slabs? Thanks for clarifying the first question posted by author. Some die cuts like panini revoljution lift off, skybox apex cutting edge plus and stadium club beam team have a little more space in them
  22. i personally prefer a subgraded 9.5 or pristine/perfect 10 vs a PSA 10. its the flippers thats driving the premium craze over PSA. If I buy a card for my collection, I do want to know what makes its grade so.
