  1. My LCS, like many, sells new books that aren't bagged/boarded. When I picked up yesterday's new releases, all three copies had a "wavy" front/back cover. The interior pages are fine; however, the covers are obviously not mint. They're not even close...and I picked the best of the bunch for each issue. A few questions: What grade would an otherwise mint book receive for a minor to moderate case of "waviness" on the front/back cover? Is there a way to address this defect without paying for a press? Will the cover retain memory of the defect that will come back over time? Somewhat related question - what is the typical manner in which it would be best to ask the LCS to bag/board near mint copies for me on NCBD? I don't want to come across as a tyrannical customer; however, I also don't want to spend good money on damaged "brand new" books. Thanks, everyone, for your input. I appreciate it. Have a wonderful day.
  2. Posting a thread so members can write notes about their interactions with me. At the time of writing, I'm fairly new to the boards; however, I have been buying/selling on eBay since 2001. I'm also active in the sports card community (Net54, among others) and handle quite a bit of Magic:The Gathering. Here's a link to my eBay store, for anyone who wants to check out my feedback and level of customer service. https://www.ebay.com/str/epcardsandcollectibles Looking forward to getting to know everyone.
  3. This is my reasoning behind holding the long edge opposite the spine. Most of my collecting experience pertains to baseball cards. Since just looking at one of those the wrong way can lower the grade, I have probably been treating this with an unnecessary amount of neurotic behavior caution. Still, I'd rather learn the right way to handle books before I start getting into pricier back issues.
  4. I've been going through my collection lately and have a question regarding safe handling. When flipping a book over to check out the back cover, what is the best way to handle it? My instincts tell me to gently lift and turn over the entire book at once, holding it by the long edge opposite the spine. Of course, I could be doing this completely wrong...such things have happened before.
  5. I was just going through my comics and found one of these. X-Men 1, Beast cover, "Club Bo" insert included. The other two copies I've checked so far do not have the insert.
  6. I am fortunate enough to have developed a good rapport with my regular USPS delivery person. It has helped me sidestep 99% of common postal shenanigans. Helpful, too, is the fact I have a regular delivery person.
  7. Hello, everyone. I collected comics for about a decade back in the late 80s/early 90s. My journey began when a high school friend convinced me to purchase a copy of Daredevil 227 from the local comic shop. Although I no longer have the exact copy from my youth, I saw another one back in 2015 and decided to pick it up. Since then, I've purchased a few books here and there and added them to my collection from the 80s/90s. Nothing earth-shattering, just a few short boxes of things that caught my eye over the years. Like many of us, I've had a bit more time lately to revisit my collection. Not surprisingly, the fire within is burning more brightly now. I'm pacing myself; however, have definitely gotten more involved with comics in 2021. Joining CGC seemed like a logical next step. Looking forward to interacting with everyone here. In the meantime, have a wonderful day. - Eric
  8. I just recently returned to this hobby; however, am primarily a sports card collector. From what I've seen in that space, this "backlog" is relatively minor. Try sending a value submission ($20 per card) to PSA right now. You *might* get it back by New Year's Day.
