And I realized I was buying to read, not to preserve. These early X-men had sooo many good story lines and the Phoenix was one of the best.

It is definitely discolored along that edge. Here's a better pic of the whole edge. I don't think it's a stain but yellowing along the whole edge and scuffing down at that bottom corner.

Such a classic cover though - seen it all over since Wandavision. Remember it well.

Another question. I took the pics from an iphone but exported at lower res. Do folks prefer a higher res than this?

Thoughts? And would a clean/press be worth it?

53 so age 12 in '79 - when I took over my brother's paper route and my disposable income sky rocketed!

Honestly, diving back into comics in the last couple weeks has been great. I was a full on x-men kid in the late 70's. The part of my collection that I like best are the 100-150 (probably pretty complete but not high grade cus I loved reading them) with such great story lines that I was buying and reading every month. I started collecting and so I picked up some early x-men that have some value now but the ones I like the best aren't really the ones that are worth the most. I really like the ones in the 50's with the Neil Adams art and the 100-150 with the early modern x-men stories. It's really fun to be on these boards with people who appreciate these. Don't know your age, but I can say that the advice to buy what you like is really solid. I don't plan to sell these. They are worth more to me than they are on ebay. I mean, if I actually need cash for the kids or something, I'd sell them in a minute but if I can afford it, I'll keep and enjoy them.

Posting a second book from my collection. Really appreciated the comments on the first one. This one looks a little bumpy on the spine - wonder if a press would help. Also appears to have some discoloration which can be seen on the back side of the front cover. Thanks again in advance - fun to be on some boards where people appreciate these.

Sorry, messed up pics. Here are other corners.

I recently pulled out my x-men that I assembled as a kid. My thought was to get some of them pressed/graded by CGC to know value and protect them. Any thoughts on this, and would it benefit from a press? I included the pic of the lower part of the center to show some damage there on the bottom of the pages. It's almost as though something sharp got pressed in there. The damage seems greatest toward the middle but exists less and less as you get further from center - goes from about page 7 to 17.

I recently opened up my old X-Men collection and joined CGC and GPA to understand value. I'm sending a few of the best ones for pressing/grading/slabbing.

My question is on this #58. Check out the price on the upper left. Rather than 15 cents it has "1/-". The ones I see on ebay all seem to have 15 cents printed there. I'd grade it about an 8 so guess it's worth around $400, but I'm wondering if this printing variant would add or subtract any value.

I'm not really planning on selling. Just grading and slabbing some to protect them for the future.
