  1. This was a VERY happy day for me (cost a LOT of money though), as I got back my very first copy of DD #s 1, 3, 6 & 7 (that I had sold over 20 years prior) + that DD 4 & FF 4!!! I'm so glad my friend held on to the books and gave me first shot when he decided to sell some!!!
  2. A HUGE board purchase! I've really been able to fill some want list holes on these here boards!
  3. Another glare filled board purchase. I snapped some of these quick just to share with a friend via text but if you guys don't mind some quick, crummy shots, I can share some here.
  4. A quick, glare filled board purchase pic!
  5. Victory Boy front cover appearance to Victory Boys back cover appearance.
  6. I really enjoyed it and had a lot of fun! There were a few spots when the theatre erupted with laughter, so the nearly sold-out room was enjoying it too. I'm about the easiest guy to suspend his disbelief and go on a ride with a Marvel movie, so that's where I'm coming from ... I'm ready to enjoy a movie with characters I love. I'll see this one again!
  7. Actually, my American copy of number four is low grade too.
  8. These are lower grade, but I'm happy to have them all the same!!!
  9. One of my very favorite Spidey covers from the very first time I laid my eyes on a copy!!! There's just something about the way Steve draws Electro ... I was SO happy to be able to add the La Prensa Publication of this issue to my collection!
  10. Thank you SO much for posting all of those!!! @fett That's exactly what I had in mind when I started the thread ... getting inside the books as well, to see what most miss with books in the slabs! VERY awesome indeed!!!
  11. Up against the wall marksmanship to up against the wall marksmanship.
  12. Wow, that's VERY cool!!! Ah, yellow costume DD ... a special place in my heart for that!
  13. Going by cover date, from December of 1957 until September of 1960, Atlas/Marvel only put out 8 issues a month. For October of 1960, they released 11 issues. So, as Stan has said in many interviews, there was a limit to the titles Marvel could put out a month and he remembers it being 8 issues. Now, could something have changed and perhaps they were allowed a little wiggle room after almost 3 solid years of doing business with Independent News? Maybe. Would Stan necessarily remember that and include it in every single interview so that those who seem to enjoy harshly criticizing him at every single opportunity would have that information? Probably not. It's important to remember here, these are just comic books!!! Nobody could've foreseen that nearly every single aspect of them would be endlessly scrutinized in the future, often by people who only seem to know how to convey information in a negative, divisive way. I'm sure if they'd have known how huge comics would become and how much their comic line would influence popular culture, they would've taken more care in documenting the who, why, what & where of every important detail ... but there was no way for them to know that! Comics had been around for decades, and Marvel itself was almost completely extinguished! All one has to do to grasp a better understanding of this, is imagine someone asks you about something you did 25 years ago, in an average workday, that held no special importance to you. Would your memory be perfect? Would you estimate something, just to be able to answer their question? I wish someone would've asked Stan, Martin Goodman, Jack or anyone else who may have been able to remember, why the superhero stories were shorter and why they kept producing the short back up stories. It'd be interesting to know if there was an actual reason or if it was just the way it worked out. I personally like that era in Marvel and like getting both types of stories in the books! SO much creativity going on there at that time, in such a tiny comics division. Oh, btw, Spidey #8 has two stories in it.
  14. Thanks! Yeah, cash is king at shows, but many dealers take electronic payments now, so it's a mixed bag. I've always found cash in hand to be the best situation for making my best deals. Perhaps my favorite part of a show is that I never know what I might find!!! Ya never know what a box holds till you take the lid off (unless of course it's labeled!!)!!!
  15. LOVE some yellow costume DD!!! Just an average raw copy for thumbing up!
  16. Well, that DOES depend on several factors, mostly where you are and what you're looking for. I'm in the midwest and I'll give you an example by showing you what I picked up at the last show I went to in town. This was a tiny show in a strip mall with only local dealers in attendance, maybe 10 of them had any vintage material. Most collectors would've likely figured a little Podunk show like that wouldn't yield anything and it wouldn't be worth going to. Well, the books pictured below was my Golden Age haul that day. Yeah, I'm a Timely guy! Anyway, the take home point is that there are plenty of dealers bringing good books to every level comic show around.
  17. GREAT set Ricky and I really dig the #1 with the label!!! The #2 would be cool that way too!!!
  18. The clarity of the newest gen is SO much better than anything I'd even thought possible, due to the layers of material between you and the book! Superior indeed!
