  1. What I have learned is that "never" is a long time. And to "never" say "never". Things happen. I have enjoyed my ride. I appreciate the feedback on some of these old books. We GA collectors have to stick together. I will post the Larson Sciences by the week-end. Jon
  2. JB, if you have the Larson double on this book, I'm flying across country and will personally your till you're !! (great cover, really wish I had a copy) STEVE nope have the Larson of Science 2, 3 and 5...
  3. It was only a matter of time before I went after some nice Simon and Fine stuff. The first couple of issues of most Fox titles are just fantastic. That is not true.....some are "Weird".....ugh...poor one...off to my igloo....jon
  4. Steve, that is a beautiful #16. Is it a pedigree? What is the "source" that you refer to in your last post? Early 'S' books me thinks. And now we switch over to our special correspondent in field, Sir Jon Berk... STEVE The 16 found a great home with Steve. He just has great taste! I will post the 17, 19 and 20 shortly.....jon
  5. for viewing pleasure.....if any one has a itch for ones in the teens let me know...
  6. You know....don't apologize for the restoration....its a great book period...this restoration stuff is not relevant in the GA as to anything but price......."It's the book, Stupid!"
  7. Me too! And I blame Jon Berk! probably done by Ed Ashe...
  8. Pedigree copy? Looks almost untouched. it is a very nice copy, but not a 'pedigree'....VF+ or so....jb
  9. then check this out.....one of my favorite pieces.... http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece...at=0&UCat=0
  10. I agree with those that comment that the Planets as a set have the best covers of any run. (So there goes the "Planet envy" for Steve F's Church run of them). Too far gone down the collecting years to attempt to amass the run, I bought from Metro the publisher's bound set of Planets 1-60 last year. 5 volumes. Great way to enjoy the covers of this run. And as many comics that are compressed, most of the copies are in very nice condition (yeah, yeah they are trimmed- but it does not diminish the impact of the books for a fraction of the cost otherwise)....jon
  11. ....and this finishes off the 1-10 set that has been posted....
  12. Gee JB, those look vaguely familiar... STEVE (make mine Larson...please!) the rest of the story is the #6 Steve passed on the #6 years ago at SD (Sparkle City, I believe) and i was standing behind said..."If you don't buy it, I will"......on the #7 it use to be Steve's....as to quality of scan, I get lazy and leave them in the mylar.....i will switch technique on some...jon
  13. Steve- I like the cover to Planet #1 also.......jon http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece...at=0&UCat=0
  14. Today's Chesler..... Actually Red Seal 14 continues from Spotlight 3.....
  15. The colors on that copy are I used to own a high grade copy but without the bright colors and it didn't do much for me. Yours on the other hand would do just fine. One of the hidden qualities of Lou Fine covers are the color choices. How many GA artists used pink?...Take a moment and look at the color nuances and shades of his covers...I think the color selection is another reason the Fine covers just "jump" out at you...jon Jon, were most golden age artists responsible for the color choices for their work (ie: did they do some kind of color guides for the engravers to follow)? I've never thought about this before, but would like to know (I know this was the case in newspaper comics, at least I'm pretty sure). Some covers and stories are colored beautifully, while others literally pale in comparison. Regardless, that WONDERWORLD cover is outstanding! I do not know the answer, but i have two covers with tracing paper indicating the colors the artisit wanted....I do not recall pink as a choice i had seen in anything but Fine covers.....to me it was part of the package....It may have varied by company......but you gotta admit the color choices is one of the enduring qualities of these Fine covers especially at Fox .....jb
  16. The "step-grandfather" of Centaurs as McMahon/Cook (went onto be Funny Pages) started a punch of short term titles that got sold to Ullman and Temerson (Ultem) and merged with Chesler..... ....also notable because this guy in a story by Siegel and Shuster gets a cape and flys a bit and gets a symbol on his chest....hmmm....sounds familiar....jon oh, paper stock cover like early New Comics and New Fun 9 and 10...
