Each book would have to be graded individually, and with that, the label potentially affects each book differently.

I doubt that any of them are better than a 7.0 after considering the label.

Thank you very much for your input. It pretty much aligns with my thinking. These books are some some samples I had taken pictures of. There are more, with some being in 8.0 to 8.5 without the label. So what is the highest grade a book with such a label could get? What is the ceiling?

  2. I came across some Bronze age comics locally that were really inexpensive to buy from the original owner. The reason was obvious; he had applied Dymo labels onto the covers back when he bought them new in the 70's. I tried to remove them using various methods, but damaging the book is unavoidable. Since those labels aren't going anywhere, I'm curious just what kind of impact do these labels have on the overall grade of the book. None of the books were abused or improperly stored, but those labels have to impact the grade. The general condition of the books in question would range from 5.0 to 8.0 WITHOUT the label. I'm curious what you folks think the respective grade of these books would be with, and without the label. I've attached pictures of some of the books in question. Thank you very much for helping me to understand grading.

  3. Hey, everyone! My name is Steve, but my friends call me Sepo. I bought my first comic book back around 1970. I remember it was The Incredible Hulk, but I can't remember which issue it was. Anyway, I became hooked on Marvel superhero comics. I took a break from collecting around 1979 when I decided I needed to save money for my first car. I got back into actively collecting 1995 and I'm so glad I did. I had forgotten how much enjoyment these comics can provide.

Anyway, I have to check the mail, now. Today, I am expecting to receive 3 CGC graded comics. Not only are they the first I've ever owned, but they're the first I will have ever even seen in person! Big day!

Thanks for letting me be a part of this community!

PS - I just realized that I started  collecting FIFTY YEARS ago! I am so old ;-)

Welcome!  Those are really nice books.  If you're new to getting your books graded, I suggest thinking through your strategy.  For many collectors, the only reason to get books graded is to sell them off.  Also regardless of whether you're looking to sell, it's only really worth the hassle and expense if the book is a significant key (in which case even a low-grade copy will be worth much more than you paid to grade it) or if it's in high grade (IMHO, at least 7.0 on early Silver Age books, 9.0 by the time you get to the Bronze Age, and 9.6-9.8 by the time you get to modern books).

Thanks for the sound advice! I would probably only consider slabbing what few key silver age books I own (ASM #9, FF #52 Marvel Super-Heroes #12, etc.) and some Bronze Age (Hero for Hire #1, Eternals #1 & & #2, Marvel feature #1, #2 & #3). The process is a little complicated to understand, but there's a lot of helpful information to be found here on these forums. Today, I should be receiving THREE Slabbed books (the first I have ever owned). Very excited!

    My journey begins.......
