  1. Kevin, I feel for you.

Take a deep breath in, pause, and exhale. Yes, the exchange thing sucks. What is the timeline for this incident? Is the date of 15 NOV 2022, in your posting when you purchased the comics? If so, reflect on how you sent them "15 more emails" when they notified you of the problem. I get it, because every so often, I go ballistic (anger management issues). But once I cool down, I ask what I could have done differently. And the long Thanksgiving Holiday more than likely impacted a response. I hope this gets resolved and/or they offer some form of discount for your next purchase.

For what it's worth, I had very positive experiences with MyComicShop

  2. Came across this issue. For 1946, incredibly clean. Grader Notes:

Right Bottom Front Cover Lite Bend (I do not see this)
Spine Lite Stress Lines Breaks Color (Clearly visible)
Spine Moderate Fraying (Does this include the front cover bottom left corner chip?)

Here is what I see in addition to the Notes above: (1) Item I circled in red (hair or scratch), light scuff marks around hero's right calf and boot, back cover lower right rounded edge, back cover piece missing from top left corner, and back cover mild discoloration/tanning along mid-lower left edge.

    Does this merit an 8.5?

Question to all the collectors out there.  Maybe this has been hashed out before but couldn't find it.  Point me in the right direction if you know where I should look.

I've been collecting for a long time (before CGC was a thing).  It seems to me, that the utter disdain and devaluing of restored books didn't exist to the same degree before CGC.  Of course, restored books in the same condition as unrestored books have always been less valuable, but they didn't used to be as undesirable as they are now.

My question is, did that purple label devalue restored comics more than it should have?  People just seem to really hate getting the purple label books (maybe cuz they don't match their other slabbed books?)  I don't mind restored books and sometimes target them to get a good deal.  I personally like how....gulp.... CBCS does it instead.  They label the book restored but don't have a different color label.

For example, I just purchased a Showcase 22 CGC 4.5 restored for about the same price as a 1.0-1.5 goes for.  It has slight color touch, and the top right of the cover is trimmed.  But it looks amazing and I have a book that presents really well for much much cheaper.

    Thoughts???

If you're ok with purchasing Restored comics, you are one lucky collector. Think of all the additional opportunities and lower prices available to you. Go get 'em.

    Hi All,

I'm new to CGC. One of the books I just had graded says "Grader Notes not available" in the registry.

What does that mean?  How can I find out why my book was graded a 9.4 instead of a 9..8?

    Thanks!

A topic with many, many discussion posts and even more opinions. I feel for you and wish there was a reason comics graded as high as 9.6 received graders notes while others (all the way down the line) did not.

Do you plan to take them out to grade them or just give an approximation based on the cover?

I bought a 5k comic book collection a few years ago and my brother and I had to bag, board, grade and record every issue (using excel).  It's time consuming!  Though having them bagged and boarded is a big plus.

I would think of it as a labor of love.  I would probably charge them a 1 time of fee of a few hundred bucks (or some nicer comics you might want) and have them throw in pizza and beer.

It won't be a good financial return on your time, but I look at it as one collector helping another.

    KCO,

Please do let me know when you have some spare time. I would gladly pay you a few hundred bucks to grade and catalog my collection. And, I would provide pizza and beer at the end of each work day. Not during. Don't want any of that grease on my comics.

CLZ comics in the store. Once you get that up and running (and have subscriptions), then they will send you a link that proves instructions for linking.

Thank you. I'll reach out to them and inquire as I am not interested in installing it on a mobile device. I want to install it directly on my desktop and only use it on my desktop.

  7. Many good points, but I do not agree with equating Grader Notes to CGC teaching us or "CGC is not going to provide you with their proprietary grading information." Refer to, "Pre-Order Your Copy of ‘The Official CGC Guide to Grading Comics’ by CGC President Matt Nelson."

A common theme on this forum is a desire for transparency. So, in order to fairly address this topic we need to understand the steps/process a grader takes to document (or skip documenting) Grader Notes. The grader is required to note (mentally or document) defects in order to arrive at a grade. How much longer does it take to include notes? Although I am not a proponent of having to pay an additional fee for notes, I am inclined to believe it takes a shorter amount of time to include the notes that it does to capture a high-resolution scan of the comic ($5 extra fee).

If CGC agreed to provide Grader Notes for every comic with no additional cost, who would object and please I would sincerely like to know why.

With a CIS policy, additional insurance is not necessary.  They will insure all your collectables when shipped without any additional fees.

Yes, this can be true based on the options you select when you set up your policy. I highly recommend reading the details of your policy. My policy spells out specific caveats for shipping a comic.

For insurance purposes, the comic is under your control until CGC receives it and ships it back. The insurance policy does not cover the comic while it is under CGC's possession.

It depends on the policy. Very detailed pics and inventory with cert # will definitely help…

Many of those high dollar books will likely not be covered as there is often a cap. And without cameras or footage showing the actual burglary the insurance company can call shenanigans quite easily.

In my experience with small business, this business would need to provide more evidence for a claim to be fully covered.

Many insurance companies will require the small business to have video surveillance to be fully insured from burglary.

Burglary is a grey area for insurance companies and small business. It’s very difficult for small business to prove they owned the book which was was stolen so small businesses usually have to settle for much lower claim.

An adjuster or actuary will instantly be suspect of the inventory listed.
Looks like an inside job. The list is almost too good to be true.

A very unfortunate situation for the owner and I hope the claims adjuster is kind.

Let’s hope these books are recovered and the perpetrators arrested!

The insurance premiums are based on the reported safety and security of the facility. For example, if they indicated on the policy they did not have security cameras, the policy would cover this.

The list of questions I had to answer to insure my collection was exhaustive. Every detail is addresses. Including paying a significantly lower premium if you selected to not cover the collection for theft. I did not go for that option.

Interestingly, Collectibles Insurance Services (CIS) will not insure collectibles valued above $2,500 shipped via UPS.

I dont recall ever seeing lots listed on CLINK, definately not lots of CGCed books.

Regardless I would be listing them as 30 individual lots (They've sold registry sets like that in the past, and theyve always listed them individually and just noted that they were part of a top registry set)

I see your point. And from a buyer’s perspective you’ll have two sets of interested parties: those who want to purchase it as a set and those looking to fill a run (individual copies). I would still reach out to CLINK. Could be the beginning of a trend. Rest assured you’ll receive input on how you can/cannot generate more money via individual sales, but if you do it on your own think of the time (packaging, insuring, post office visits, collecting payments, possible returns) you’ll save if you sell it as a set. And use this as a selling point to any potential buyer because they’ll also save all of the aforementioned time. Keep us apprised.
And to assist with valuation, post the comic number and grade here. Lots of knowledgeable members here. And lastly, prepare for potentially significant varying opinions.
    Happy Sales 😛
