This is a REALLY bad listing. Obviously, the auctioneer thought it was SS 4 not FM 4, but then this would be a massive undercall for SS 4 in this condition. But then you read the description and it's down as GD to VG. This is about the best 3.0 I've ever seen. This whole listing is wrong in EVERY way. It is indeed both a fantasy and a masterpiece. Don't know on the 8p stamp. We need One Who Knows to put his stamping hat back on.

FF 55 is an interesting comic. It's almost an honourary 66-er (ND, second hiatus). There actually are PV's of it, so it definitely was distributed, but you seldom see them ( e.g. there are 12 copies for sale in the UK on ebay right now, 2 are PV's, the other 10 are non-stamped cents issues, so picked up by collectors or imported by dealers). Even when they are PV's, well, Ethel was clearly not expecting this one to be a pence issue.... And then there's Maud.....

I particularly like the writing on the spine. Now that's what I call attention to detail! Lovely parody. I like the way the bowling ball becomes the stamp - that was just waiting to happen. You have to say this Curt Swan/Murphy Anderson cover is quite campy like the TV series. It stands out in a run of much darker Neal Adams cover.

Not directly relevant, but interesting The Mexicans ran out of originals long before we did here and started creating their own Spider Man continuity in which Gwen lived. Also, I thought Transworld had the worldwide licence outside US/Can, but seems not (though maybe it was Transworld that got the licence after 1974. Can't see our pal Al letting anyone else have it!). Imagine if you'd bought 2 & 3 and were kicking yourself for not buying no 1 when suddenly this re-appeared in the rack for sixpence. Happy days. Extremely well distributed title, DD. Apart from the 74 and & 81 hiatuses, there are only 3 random issues that are ND (so 7 in total). Of the main titles, it has the smallest number of ND issues.

Pretty sure it's just 5 & 6 (though if there is another stampey, #4 would be my bet). I was looking at the period December 70 to June 71 and these were the only ones that were ND (apart from Kid Colt, but that was never distributed again after printing moved to Sparta). This seemed a bit weird to me so I checked and presto bongo, there are stamps for 5 and 6. I thought 4 might be a contender too, but everyone seems to agree it was ND.

Although I think that changed pretty quickly, maybe depending on where you were. I remember my Dad thought my comic collection was a childish waste of money until the first time I got him to take me to Dark They Were (this would be about 1977). The prices of the wall comics alone gave him an instant education....and he was even enough of a gent to say so.

You know the funny thing is, none of us on here know each other, but we've some idea of how much money is tied up in each other's comic collections, whereas our actual rellies are in for quite a surprise. I wonder how many of the Comicscenti have let the other rellies fight over the Limoges porcelain figurine and the silver teaspoons while quietly carrying the boxes down from the attic.

Yup. I mean they would really have to be in VF/NM to justify those price tags, but if you wanted to collect those issues in that condition, you could wait a lifetime to see them all come up again. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you on Saturday. ps the Alan Class reprint of FF 1 has an interesting price tag. I have this recurring dream where I buy Alan Class's house..."No, no Alan, don't bother to clear out the attic, basement, garage and shed.....I'll take care of that"
