paulie, i still can't believe i saved those last two for pons and steve. my day simply isn't complete without 4 of your burgers for lunch.

I suppose in Chi Town we could bo buy a cheap barbeque and do up some grub. Only this time I will buy at least 30lbs of beef, you boys can eat.

you know better than that; mexican one nite, forum steak the next. we are hidebound traditionalists, us geeks.

what about for breakfast or lunch?

    McGriddles.

(tsk) I was thinking that $40 hotel breakfast (They did have good bacon)

Why did I know you would be the one to bring up some kind of Pork product?

Man, Billy just called me and told me he hasn't been able to stop thinking about my meat since last night! I am not sure how to take that? Not joking, he really did call me and tell me that.

I have no clue what's going on and I don't think I want to know.

I don't know what else to say.

  3. my understanding is YA usually sell under guide in all grades? (shrug)

not a hot timely title, money off guide can indeed be saved on anything except the 4 perhaps. the 3 i an around guide book as well. it has been my experience that some of the mid-teen books are HARD to find in non-beater condition.

    that man knows for sure

(thumbs u Thanks Guys! Learn something every day around here.

  4. my timelys are bought these days basically on upgrade theory, and i managed to get these two from C'link. that little young allies has been a hard one, as i've been looking to upgrade my ragged-out copy for quite some time.

Can anybody offer some insight on what mid-grade Young Allies books usually go for? Guide? More than guide? If so, how big a percentage over guide? I'm thinking books in the 5.0-7.0 range.

There's one I want and the guy is asking for right about guide price but it's raw. If I slab it and it ends up coming up even a 1/2 point below what I expect I will have ended up paying about 25% over guide. Is that too much?

    Thanks all,

    Mike

  5.

PS: My first Cap and first Schomburg. Should've probably started with a higher grade book but my wife says she just has to have a car to get around. Unreasonable hag.

Great book and a Gorrilla cover to boot, and its a real nice looking 5.0! Be proud to have a book like that.

    Paul

Thanks Paul. I've been looking at Caps since I started buying GA a whopping 8 months ago. Glad I finally pulled the trigger. I think once I have it in my hands I'm really going to appreciate it..................and immediately want another one!

  6. Can somebody tell me who the resident Timely kings are around here? I've seen tons of great books but haven't really pieced together who the major Timely players are around here (this would be called laziness on my part). I'd like to know so I can start pestering them to sell me books. :)

Rick, have you decided which run to start selling off, MMC or Cap?

that is a nice one to start with....

I am making my list and checking it twice, but likely won't start selling copies until April in NY....however, I will entertain request prior to then, from fellow friends and boardies

    Rick,

I'm headed to Michigan next week to catch the Red Wings game and do a little bit of gambling. If I hit it big at the blackjack tables :wishluck: you'll be hearing from me!

That's of course if I don't go to Windsor and blow it all at Jason's or Cheetah's first

  8. I just realized that the dragon/snake is really a mechanical contraption manipulated by the natives. Seems like an awfully weird thing for potentially primitive natives to have created, nor is it easy to tell how the fire works.

I'm not sure why I never noticed it before. There must have been something else about the drawing that distracted me.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I mean, seriously, what is it with the dude on the far right and his beer belly? What, he's like the only native who doesn't think shredded abs gets the ladies to come a runnin'?

  9. Maybe I was out of line but I asked the seller for a small refund considering what I believe to be a bad overgrade. He/She threw the guide price at me and said I still got a great deal. In the end he said I could send the book back for a full refund, less shipping. I paid 8 for shipping plus would've paid another 6 or so to ship it back and the idea of giving this person 15 bucks for nothing didn't appeal to me. I probably won't buy from them again. Well, at least without a better scan next time. In the grand scheme its not a big deal. I think I paid probably 25 bucks more than I would've if I knew the truer grade of the book beforehand.
