  1. Been busy and I haven't had a chance to post much lately, but I just got two books in from CGC.

I like them, I really like them...

Incredible book Richard! How does it compare to the high grade one you used to own?

That is such a great cover.Classic indeed.Congratulations Richard.

PS do you have the National 7?

  2. Tony

Do you have daring love 1 and fantastic fears 5?

Yes, I have both of them. I didn't post either because neither has a Ditko cover, only interior stories. I haven't scanned the cover of Fantastic Fears #5 yet but here's the cover of Daring Love #1.

that guy's head could be Ditko, no? could he have pencilled the cover? or is the artists known?

hm Guy's head looks like Jack Kamen's work

This is a gilmour book.Im sure it is just a staff artist.Nobody famous.

That guy's grippin' that hay pretty hard... :o

The old roll in the hay cover

  5. Man, After looking at some of those covers I guess I like the discussion and legend of Ditko more than a lot of his work... :tonofbricks:

I would like to ask the "historians" of the board if they think Steve Ditkos body of work would still be held in the same regard today if he hadn't worked on spidey and become so "unavailable" to the fans????????

I've often pondered the same question, but I always come back to this: Ditko conveys raw emotion. Kirby conveys raw power. While a lot of the covers shown here are not the high quality of say a Wally Wood, they have their own unique feel and when one looks at them, it's pretty obvious they are by the same artist.

While I may not have heard of Ditko without Spidey until much later in life, I would have definitely become a fan when I did learn of him.....

To me he was the man.Better than Kirby or any marvel artist.Just read strange Tales 97 the other day.Simply awesome. His artwork may be a bit simple to some but it sure makes me smile.

  6. Some more Ditko pre-code covers from Charlton

Did you witness/arrange that or did the book arrive with it?

Someone has a real Ditko auto on here.I believe he got it from Blake Bell. And it was in cursive.

  8. His early work for Marvel is also great.

When are you going to post the good books :jokealert:

Awesome collection.I think Designer Toast took pictures of my Daring love 1 .Look in the oregon board members meet thread.

  9. Ditko is certainly one of the Founding Fathers of Marvel Comics and his contributions to the medium are huge.

That being said, and with all due respect, does everybody posting in and reading this thread really LIKE his artwork? I never cared for it myself...give me Adams or Wrightson any day! (shrug)

Yes my favorite artist.Followed by Neal Adams.Wrightson is good most of the time. But not in my top 5.

  10. Jesus H' Christ, you people almost make me disgusted to be a comic collector. Most of your questions are for the prospector not the collector. Can you not enjoy the pictures presented before you without asking "how much is this" "this guy is hyping his books" "there must be an agenda". Look at the freaking books for gods sake. When/If he makes additional statements as to whether the books are for sale, then make your comments as to his agenda/intentions. You are ruining threads like these for all of us by making your assumptions by multiple posts and ruining the original intent of this thread. Hell, I'm even writing this inebriated (sp?). so cut it out people. I like pretty covers, keep em runnin'

Turn back while there is still time because... foreheadslap.gif

    sign-rantpost.gif

The comics are NOT for sale.

I've been consistent right from the start about letting that fact be known.

Every Private Message, I've repeatedly said: "I am still enjoying them. They are not for sale."

I've never once hedged and said, "...well, if the price is right" or "Make me an offer."

    So, to sum up... makepoint.gif
