Thank you for your question. Grading subs requires a more detailed look into the centering—for primary front and back designs within the frame of the cardstock as intended by the original design, surface, edges and corners— for visual and structural integrity of the card. It takes more time to grade subs for those reasons and every card that receives subs has to be individually looked at.

So you are saying they are graded to a different standard???  They are looked at differently?

These are cards I just got back from CSG.  I was only disappointed by the Penny Hardaway card.  I missed this soft top left corner somehow.  Also, the Iverson label is missing the part about this being the silver Reebok parallel.  CSG is currently reviewing this now in the hope they'll send me a label to have this shipped back and fixed.  All in all, I like CSG.

Very nice!  Mine are in encapsulation right now.  Grades should be coming soon.  IF they grade well, I have a pile more to send, PIppen, Robinson, Nash, Garnett, etc.

Thanks for your hopeful words, and I sincerely hope you are right about CSG‘s place in the sports card grading hierarchy. I was just a little surprised at the grade that I got on that card because a sports card grading friend of mine told me he thought it was at least an 8.5 and I was in agreement with him. We will see how it all shakes out.

Do you have a pic of the card?

  4. Got the Kobe score back from PSA and it's a 9.  I'm thrilled about it!  I have a handful of others from the same set in similar condition, 2 Planet Metals and 1 Platinum portrait

Thanks for the picture to compare!  Congrats on the 9.  Are you looking to sell it?

My First two CSG cards, both were Express Grades...
The Jordan got a perfect 10 on Centering, but an overall 9 grade, Looks great though.

The Kobe had 3 sub grades that were 9.0 or higher, and a very unfortunate low surface grade that brought the overall card grade down.  This was opened directly from pack and placed in sleeve, so whatever they found an issue with on the surface was directly from the manufacturer, regardless the card and it's colors look amazing in the CSG Slab on the Kobe Rookie.  :)

I just sent in two of those Jordan's last week.  How does the back of yours look chipping wise?

  7. I’ll start by saying that I’ve never looked this close at my cards in the past and I’m starting to notice little things. I have a 1989 topps traded Aikman that I thought was perfect. Crisp corners, pristine edges, good centering, etc. but upon further inspection, it has an ink stain on the bottom border of the card. A small pink, red spot that I’m sure came from the pack that way. How far will it drop the overall grade of the card in your opinion?

    thanks, Danny

  8. Yeah, I don’t think it’s a 9.5 but I’m hoping for 8+. Who knows tho, I’ve never had. A card graded. I have the Kobe from this set at PSA right now. Who knows when I’ll get that back

  9. Has anyone had 97 Metal Universe basketball graded here?  I was hoping for some close up pics and grades to compare mine to before I send them out.  I have the Jordan, Kobe, Garnett, Shaq, Iverson, Duncan and more.

    Thanks, D
