I also sent the seller a few questions, and he replied very quickly, he seemed like a legit ebayers. It def looked like a 3.5-4.0 copy but maybe with a press & dry cleaning the book may get a 5.0 who knows...
12k without a resto/trim check . To seller who isn't familiar with comics. Definitely a gamble.

Great Seller. highly recommenced
and will surely buy from again... and again... and again etc...

***While it looks like kaholo1256 is on the road to making this right, by his own admission he agrees with the nomination and should be put on the list. I'm glad we're heading toward a resolution, but the name should be added to the list for accountability's sake.

Up until this most recent 5.5 sale there was a $7k spread between a 5.5 and a 6.0 all year. With this most recent sale of a 6.5 there is now an $8k spread between a 6.0 and a 6.5 (though that will probably narrow some the next time a 6.0 comes up). So is there anything "outlier" about a $6000 spread between a 5.0 and a 5.5? Nope. As I said, it looks consistent to me at least within that cluster of grades.
Also, that "old label" 5.5 that just sold is not even particularly nice looking for its grade IMO, mostly because of that jagged, over hanging top edge and the pre-marvel chipping on the top right edge. That book ain't "upgrading" to nothin and I would find it hard to believe anybody who would know what they are doing bought it for that reason.
No, somebody just decided that they wanted a decent looking mid grade copy of a Hulk 1 NOW and they paid strong for it. Happens all the time.
That's what moves (and has moved ) the market. Although in this instance , it just moved a 5.5 a little further away from a 5.0 pricing and a little closer to a 6.0. Stop the presses! Always a pleasure.

I agree with the bold comment, however I believe this "buyer" bought for the label and possible upgrade , ( due to that label) Which called for the strong price . Which also happens all the time with old labels

A 6.0 also sold for $23k back in February .
$22K actually.
Where did that Hulk #1 6.0 sell?
Was it a possibly upgradeable copy?
CGC 6.5 copies sold for $23 and 24.7K during that same time period in Feb and May.
I think you understand my point - a new outlier is not automatically a floor for a book. It's just a data point.
Also a 5.0 sold for 13k on dec 6th (eBay).

I agree, a 5.0 is def not, looks more like a 4.0-4.5 raw copy, but with a nice press & dry cleaning done by ccs should help the book out.
I think that is still a little generous and I am not sure it can be improved much without seeing it in hand.
I still have questions about the seller though. Do you know them?
Unless someone really legit is able to vouch for him (highly unlikely) , I'd stay clear of this auction as tempting as it may be to some (which doesn't say much )
IMO , To many question marks.

- white pgs and great sig placement (Very rare on both occasions! )

A 5.5 just sold for $19.5k too..

Improvable?
i dont see it improving much, but some people LOVE those old labels
They do indeed. But that seems like a high price for a 5.5 (way above the previous GPA high of $15K) unless the buyer believes the book would benefit from a press and resub.
Absolutely, too strong IMO, but sometimes that old label gives false CPR belief

Clay Mann is outstanding! Beautiful piece

You can't micro analyze every sale. It's going to be the financial downfall of the hobby. There will always be some variation on price. This isn't the stock market where everyone shops at the same place.

About 20+ years ago I bought a Captain America Comics # 1 with a buddy of mine. 4 years later he wanted to sell it and I should have bought him out as my father suggested.
Instead we went down to New York and put it in a Sotheby's Comic auction and it sold for $23000.00.
The cover has "B" written in pencil which makes it very distinctive and easy to pick out.
Years later I saw that the book had been sent to CGC and came back 8.0 Blue label
OUCH - but 16 years ago the comic landscape was drastically different and no one would have guessed that this book, in said grade, would be eventually 6 figures .
still gotta sting though!
I had a Hulk 1 5.5 - sold it for 7.5k - 6/8 months later its 15k+

I think most can relate to the OP in someway or form.
The longer you wait to re-acquire the ASM 129 the harder it will be, especially now, with the punisher about to get pretty popular again (netflix etc)

awesome!

Bought a long box and a short box the other day from someone local. Mostly 70's books but a few 60's. Mostly G to VG. Lots of Superman, Action Comics, DC 100 pagers etc.
