Funky boxes...

38 posts in this topic

I used to customize all my boxes.

I used to do comic shows in the early/mid 90's and I had around a dozen boxes that I taped pictures from low grade reader copies or magazines like Wizard that I'd cut out. So the Silver/Bronze Age marvel boxes had Marvel Value stamps and cover images representing the era, the Indy boxes had Lady Death, other bad girls and Valiant images, you get the idea...

My three or four year old son used to help out so some pictures looked like a three or four year old cut them out. It helped out when setting up and people would occasionally start up a conversation. I still have some of them

Yeah I have and I'll keep on posting it smile.gif

Each time I enter my comics room/study it's a LOT of fun seeing the entire wall filled with comics....

I always wanted to enjoy my comics as well as reading and collecting them...

Trouble is that the cabinet is almost filled up, there's room for about 10.000 comics, but I have a few hundred TPBs and hardbacks that I kinda forgot about when drawing the plans for the cabinet and around 8000 comics, there's only room for a few 100 left frown.gif

thanks for the good vibes hobbes hi.gif

Anyway I'm sure it's on his website http://www.jenseickhoff.com/ but I couldn't be bothered to harvest the whole site just to find the pic....

Just checked - not there frown.gif and the link to the Friends/fun page is empty (Coming soon) - how sad for Jens frown.gif

Been a bad year for the misguided youth....marriage is off, move to the US is off, and so is his opening of a comic store.... sorry.gif

We need to bring him back to the boards so he can exorcise his demons

I still use the standard white long boxes, but I did have three cabinets made for housing. While I don't have the neccesary house space for floor to ceiling bookshelves, these cabinets fit well anywhere. Of course I need more cabinets now.

Make sure you push that Son of Satan back down before you shove that box into the shelf and go throw that dirty pair of underwear in the box lid (next to box 5) into the laundry where it belongs !

Do you think Son of Satan might be worth something someday Darth?? One would have to wear underwear in order for it to become dirty. Saves on laundry costs. 27_laughing.gif

Just a piece of free advice... always make sure your comics are at least 2" off the floor (5cm for the rest of the world), and that they are on a non-porous surface.

90% of all flooding comes from inside the home, not outside, and it only takes 1/4" of standing water to wick its way through an entire long box...

True 'House..sound advice. However if my place floods I will personally give away every book I own to you for not heeding your advice. Flooding is one of the few things I don't have to worry about. Others however, living in disaster-prone areas should look into this.

Uh.....did you not see the part where he said, "90% of all flooding comes from inside the home, not outside, and it only takes 1/4" of standing water to wick its way through an entire long box."

In other words.....90% of all flooding in a house (or apartment, etc) comes from within......from broken water pipes, etc. No matter where you live, books should be stored off the floor whenever possible. thumbsup2.gif

It's not just pipes either. You'd be amazed at what can happen when your dishwasher decides it wants to end it all... or your fridge... or your chest freezer... or your air conditioner's compressor... much less the havoc you'll experience if someone knocks over their bong... blush.gif

That was all meant to be covered by my "etc" statement. tongue.gif

Actually, the only other thing I came up with off the top of my head at the time was a toilet disaster......and thought I'd just put "etc" instead. crazy.gif

Wise words...in light of the pending touchdown of Hurricane Isabella, East Coasters should probably look into securing their long boxes in their basements.
