I too would bust it out but only to have it graded. The sealing is neat and all that but as said before you can reseal it if needed.

 

Who knows if you get a 9.9 or even a 10.0, The later'd be a $10,000 book easy.

Impossible to say, but the front looks 9.6 at least.

I'm surprised so many people have suggested opening it; it would be akin to opening something like the rarest, most valuable Whitman 3-pack, and the value of this set far exceeds any of those.

 

Comics have an Overstreet/CGC grading scale; rare, collectible records the Goldmine scale. Sealed, unplayed records command a premium – the rough equivalent of an unread warehouse copy comic.

 

You cannot re-seal this back to its original condition – modern day shrinkwraps are of a different composition than those of 40+ years ago. And even if they were made of the same type of plastic, making it look and feel 40 years old plus giving it the same exact seal as at the plant would be nigh impossible, to say nothing of the potential can of restoration worms you’d be opening.

 

Keep it sealed and safe, and buy a reader and listener copy of the set.
