Portland's Premiere Comic Book Event Returns Sunday March 2nd!

PORTLAND, MA - Celebrate "The Year of the Comic Book" with Primate Promotions' Spring comic book event at Verrillo’s Convention Center of Portland.

The past several years have seen more and more comic book characters make the jump to TV and the big screen and dozens of works of fiction go from the page of text to a page of storytelling art. Stephen King's "Gunslinger," Laurell K. Hamilton's "Anita Blake." and so many more have received the comic book treatment. With Marvel comics releasing movies such as the highly anticipated Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk, Warner Brothers giving us the second of the new Batman movies, and other great cinematic comic book translation coming, such as Wanted, Watchmen, and more, more and more people are re-discovering comic book collecting.

"Comic books are increasingly becoming a highly-regarded story-telling medium," says convention promoter Dave Cummings of Monkeyhouse Entertainment (www.monkeyhouseentertainment.com). "With noted authors such as Orson Scott Card, George RR Martin, Stephen King, and so many more jumping into the fray, it's no surprise that comic book reading is on an upswing; even becoming an accepted learning tool by teachers across the country."

Sunday, March 2nd, marks the 23rd edition of the Portland Comic Spectacular. Vendors from across New England will be on hand selling comic books for readers, as low as a quarter each, and comic books for collectors, where demand and rarity dictate price.

"With so many good things happening in comic books these days, we are inviting all attendees to join us at NO ADMISSION charge," said Cummings. "Come and spend an hour or the day digging through boxes of fun. You can relive your childhood, start a new collection, or make an investment in a collectible. Comic books aren't just for kids anymore."

That's Sunday, March 2nd, at Verrillo’s Convention Center at 155 Riverside St. Portland, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It's a small long running (15 years) show for comic collectors. 25 tables of comics and about 5 tables of CDs for the significant others to peruse while the comic collector in the family is shopping.

It's also a great New England city to check out while you're here.
