Too early to talk Motor City Comic Con?

54 posts in this topic

Is it too early to discuss the Motor City Show? Who's planning on attending?

I'm not sure what day to go yet. I'm still contemplating volunteering to help. Might be a little fun but the drive may kill that. I'm not sure I want to drive 50 minutes each way on 2 different days.

I'll be there, that's my "local" con, and my friend Steve and I will have a booth and be buying stuff all weekend.

Got trash books to dump? Come see us! Got a longbox of Dell/Gold Key clotting up the back room? We'll buy it. Low grade Gold or 50's or obscure titles? We want 'em all! Westerns? Ducks? Romance? Archie? If the price is right we want them all! Coverless oldies? Sold! Bulk modern readers? We'll drag 'em in from the parking lot for you!

High grade Gold, Silver, slabbed books or keys? Ehh, we'd rather have another longbox of Charltons and ACG's instead, LOLOL (But there are plenty of other big name dealers that will be happy to buy or trade your high end items)

I have more fun at that show than almost anywhere. Steve and I generally show up on set-up night with some display boards some bags and mylars, and an extra small folding table, and do nothing but buy, cream any decent stuff and set everything else out at 50 cents.

We parlayed a very modest amount of money into some pretty decent stuff, last year I came home with a Showcase 2 and 3, Batman 13, a few GA Supermans for myself, and a couple thousand decent Bronze, Silver and modern books. This from starting out with a total of one book in my briefcase that I brought to trade to a buddy.

Heh, of course, I also had about 12 longboxes of utter junk to get rid of too....

FUN!

I posted in SS forum about my intent to go based on if I can hit a target submission amount to defray the costs. PM me with wants and we can go from there. Everything is tentative at this moment but hopefully I will know yes or no by early next week.

Man, Pirate, you're right on top of your game! I just found out about Claremont today at the one day Detroit show.

Good job!

Well, hopefully I'll get a chance to meet you Pirate. And the others for that matter. Detroit Mike will probably tease me for this but I'm still facillating on whether to volunteer 1 day or not. (Almost 1 hour drive one way for me.) Heck, I tried to e-mail Motor City from their site yesterday and it bounced back. Maybe I'll try to call.
