Comic Book Veterans Join Together to Bring Comic Book Shows Back to Portsmouth!

Local creators and collectible retailers get together for a day of comic book fun.

PORTSMOUTH, NH - Just weeks before the release of the anticipated smash hit comic book movie, Iron Man, and its consumer advocacy/literacy counterpart, Free Comic Book Day, Portsmouth, NH, will once again celebrate the uniquely American art form of comic books with its own Comic Book Show.

To be held at the Holiday Inn of Portsmouth, just off the Portsmouth Traffic Circle, on Sunday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., this debut show will offer FREE admission for everyone. Attendees will also receive a FREE autographed copy of "Johnny Raygun" from the series' creator and artist, Rich Woodall.

Organized and sponsored by veteran comic book convention promoter Dave Cummings of Monkeyhouse Entertainment and comic book retailing/publishing veteran, Ralph DiBernardo of Jetpack Comics LLC & Jetpack Press, the first show is being held at a small and intimate venue providing fans the chance to meet local creators and shop for their favorite collectibles.

The show will feature local small press guests Rich Woodall, creator, writer and artist of Johnny Raygun; Dan Drew and T.J. Falkenburg, creative team of the locally-produced comic Severed Head Presents; and Ian C. Nichols, artist/writer of Fat Cat Funnies. Other small press creators are expected to join the show in the coming weeks.

Special guest of the show will be John Herman, creator, writer and producer of the hit web series Gravityland. Gravityland is an original web TV series and interactive experience. Herman's show is proudly produced in New Hampshire by a dedicated community of creative people. He will be on hand showing episodes of his work and discussing the trials and tribulations of independent film work.

Exhibitors at the show include local favorite comic book and science fiction store Jumpgate of Portsmouth; comic and gaming shop The Toy Soldier of Amesbury, MA; Manchester’s favorite comic and gaming shop, Double Midnight Collectibles; Comically Speaking of Reading, MA (rumored to have one of the nicest comic book shops in New England); and private collectors/retailers Bill Lockhardt, Ken Dunn, and Paul Conrad; as well as Monkeyhouse Entertaiment of Salisbury, MA, and Jetpack Comics LLC of Rochester, NH. The comic book and collectible selection will range from comic books for just a quarter to highly collectible comics from the 1940s and 50s.

With over 50 tables of comics books, collectibles, and creators, The Portsmouth Comic Book Show will prove to be a day of fun and excitement for everyone that attends. Expect vendors to have classic investment-quality Golden and Silver Age comic books as well as thousands of comics for the collectors and readers at 25 cents each. Private collectors, local comic book shops, and professional convention dealers will all be present at this debut show. Drawings throughout the day will provide lucky winners with rare and collectible DC Comics variants and RRPs. Winners must be present.

Vendor and small press space is still available. Well, they aren't really near each other at all, but depending on your route, it might not be TOO far out of your way. Plymouth is up north past Lake Winnipesaukee, while Portsmouth, obviously, is on the seacoast. About 100 miles apart, by highway.
