So how much does oversray bother you on a high grade slab in 9.4 or greater shape?

I'd prefer not to have the overspray, but I've done it in one or two cases where I got a great deal as a result.

I have done that before...

I got a great deal on a ASM 129 in CGC 8.5 that had top black over spray

it wasn't really noticeable from the front but since it has a white back cover -

it really shows there.

I think I paid $100 less than book.

:shy:

At some point in the early to mid '80s some whiz at the printers decided to print on the colour code on the page edge, thus eliminating any more defaced books like that ASM 41. :P

so then these would be variant editions...... correct? hm

is there any premiums being paid for certain color codings? especially on the big issues like ASM 252 and 300?

Not sure, but sometimes the spray would mean that the book was a return.

The vast majority of the really intrusive spray-jobs are remainder copies, as these were heavily inked to insure none would be returned for refund.

Gotcha. Guess it beats ripping off the top third of the comic...

Too true. I'd have never gotten into comics at all if it hadn't been for those illegal coverless two-fer-25-cents packs (= un-destroyed returns copies) that were sold at my local convenience store back in the '70s... :cloud9:
