Baker Romance

I like the #14 least in the series, although it has its charm with an older couple reminiscing about their past. The interior Baker art is also really good.

I'm kinda ambivalent about that cover, too. I agree the interior art is good, although the stories are reprints.

Anyone know what the last St John romance comic was to have new Baker interior art? hm

I think it would be a tie between the three books dated June 1954, Cinderella Love #14, Teen-Age Temptations #8, and True Love Pictorial #10. From this point on, all St. John romance books were made up from reprints (except the covers).

Is "Fast Company" in Teen-Age Temptations 9 new or a reprint? If new, is that possibly the last one?

"Fast Company" is originally from Pictorial Romances #7, May 1951.

Man! You know your Baker! Great info. Thanks! (thumbs u

An invaluable resource is the Fantagraphics St. John Romance "master list". For those wishing to download it:

Great resource. I think Dr. Love may have posted that link before and I never followed up on it. doh!

Was it put together by Jim V., Jr.?

John Benson, I think. The checklist was a supplement to Benson's "Confessions, Romances, Secrets, and Temptations", 2007.

Of course! And I have that book! Another doh! to me!

The other war comic that I like is Approved issue with the Leatherneck Jack story.

Which issue is that? I don't think I've seen it before.

I posted that one back on page 12.

Need 10&11 to complete my Baker set 1-11

Most copies that pop on eBay are VG or lower.

Figured if I was going after the Fightin' Marines, I may as well pick up this one as well because it has a Baker Canteen Kate story. From DTA's Southern States books, which unfortunately he didn't get CGC to pedigree, although it seems to me it would have qualified.

Here's my TT#6...VG+ Ste-lla....

Nice one. Seems like a relatively common issue. St Johns are funny in that you see a lot of copies of some issues and almost never see others. I guess it may have been due to their spotty distribution and maybe a warehouse find or two. hm

As far as I can tell, this is the only BAKER I have.

Nice one. Most issues of Authentic Police Cases are tough to find in nice shape. Do you remember whether the St Johns romance comics were on the newsstands? Apparently they had spotty distribution, which may account for their being underrepresented in the Edgar Church collection.

I actually had a so-called Church Baker romance but it looked like a normal VG- without any gloss. There was some speculation that Church had bought some used ones. I did own several of the Authentic Police Case Mile Highs and the grades did vary a lot.

I've noticed that too, especially in the Teen-age romances run and Wartime romances - issues 6, 10, 12, and 14 always show up...

I really don't remember seeing any romance comics on the newsstands.

Until fairly recently, Metro had a Church APC up. I think it may have been a 9.4. It was taken down a few months ago, along with most of the Church copies on the site. I don't know whether it sold or they are holding it for a ComicConnect auction. They were asking a lot for it -- more than $2K if I'm remembering correctly. Was that one of yours?
