The Encyclopedia of Collectibles - Comics!

20 posts in this topic

I thought I'd share this before I headed out on a weeks vacation. Back in '78, Time Life put out a series of these books covering all sorts of collectibles. I thought some on this board might find the comics entry interesting.

Here is the cover

And then the article itself

Awesome. Thanks for sharing. Now I have to find that and add it to my book collection. The never ending quest to have EVERYTHING.

The Popeye doll is very cool.

I was marveling over that one myself.

Anything from the pre plastic revolution is cool, but this is was not only

manufactured from a sawdust/glue mold where I bet was very time consuming

- it was hand painted, which is just ridiculous to think of the time invested.

The production values are this book are superb: from the layout of the illustrations; to choice of font. It also managed to condense a very complex story into a summary whose basic understanding of the industry would hold up today. Nice find.
