There are approximately nine thousand of them that were "sold" to some retailers and the original run was about 63,000--70,000 copies.

 

It was all a marketing scam, freely admitted by Marvel, whereby a select number were not destroyed, and were subsequently sold at a *premium* to some speculating dealers.

Now disagreeing with you JC but just curious where Marvel freely admitted that. (shrug)

Marvel freely admitted that they kept some back from shredding to sell to "certain retailers" at a steep premium, so it's not like these snuck out the back door or made it to retailer shelves before a recall or something.

 

This was a Marvel-sanctioned, limited "nude" edition that the company sold to a few retailers at a speculator rate.
