Just in case anyone's interested, I was at my LCS earlier and noticed they are having Gilbert Shelton in for a signing on 14th September.

 

That's at Dave's Comics, Sydney Street, Brighton.

Gilbert Shelton is probably (after Crumb) the most famous and influential underground artist. He created the Freak Brothers, Wonder Warthog and Fat Freddy's Cat to name a few.

i loved the quote in the movie Comic Book Confidential (1988), something along the lines of (paraphrasing)...

 

"if Crumb was the best underground comix artist, then Shelton was his best competition."
