Is the spine brittle?

CapFreak... no kidding, I love it. It's on my want list too, haha, this copy is one I'm thinking about picking up. Therefore, I'm not sure if the spine is brittle, but it does look as though that's a possibility

Hey guys, any more opinions would be appreciated. Here is some more info from the seller:

 

The colors on the cover are not faded at all, they are still bright and glossy, and we are talking about a 68 years old book. The line on the back cover are not rips or creases, it's just dirty, with a cleaning process the back cover would be almost like new. There are some spine crease and a couple of indentation on the Batman cape in the front cover, not braking color (in the scan are almost invisible) The biggest problem is the top left corner and a rip in the spine between the teo staples (1.5 inch)

With the whole top left corner of the book chipped of and the split in the center of the spine, along with the stiff look of the spine I would be concerned with brittleness - it might be the kind of book that could easily become a FR with handling.

I have a lot of books like that that are not brittle at all, but if you haven't bought it yet, I'd ask for a shot of the spine and the inside front cover, see if it's tan near the spine. Nice book:)

3.0 I'd be careful buying a book with a spine split, as they have a tendency to increase with handling.
