An OPEN PLEA to everyone in TEXAS or close to Texas

Prior to comics Ben only did sci-fi cons and he only did those because it became an outlet for him to get autographs. He collects autographs. It also gave him an "in" with Lucasfilm because he is now the "official" rep for people like Carrie Fisher.

Exactly my point - you see this as something you can "fix" when Ben likely sees the Con as "working perfectly" for his sci-fi/guest star purposes.

If you want to change things, get rid of Ben.

PAGING MR. EVANS, PAGING MR. RICHARD EVANS...

Not sure why you're paging Richie. I've talked him into setting up there before and helped him work his booth.

HE may have quite a few viable ideas about who and how a good show

may come to Texas. From my old school days of doing shows, I can

tell you that promoters never have enough money, vendors never have

enough merchandise, venues never meet expectations, attendees never

have enough cash, guests never meet expectations, advertising never

reaches the masses etc etc, speaking ONLY for the local Houston area, and

I have not done a show in 10 years ???

Ask Ricky about the George R Brown show we did in '93 ?

BIGGEST, BADDEST venue in Houston, I bounced a check to Ricky

for $1600 for 12 tables, Ricky had 12 ?, and another good friend bought

12, we had basically a HUGE long aisle to ourselves and the show

only pulled 800 attendees. Been downhill since then...

Be glad you guys don't live in Arkansas. There's never been anything big here.

Just a little small time comic show that meets 2 or 3 times a year in a hotel. Hard to even cover the cost of a $45 table.

Screw comics. Anybody from Texas coming to Wondercon and willing to bring me some Blue Bell Homestyle Vanilla Ice Cream?

Not going to Wondercon but I do have some Blue Bell Vanilla in my freezer. Mmmmm, good.

You are cruel, sir. :frustrated:

Arkansas may be one thing but this is Texas. 1/12 of the population of the US lives in this state. The Dallas/Fort Worth area is the forth largest metro area in the country. Three of our cities are in the top ten most populated in the country.

There's no reason Texas should have a successful con. 1 out of every 12 people in the country are here!

100s really would be an overstatement. But there will be some quality dealers there. Mainly me and Stronguy. ;)

Seriously though. There are some good guys that do set up everytime and the prices are usually within reason.

Well, that's good to know!
