Emerald City ComiCon, April 4th & 5th, Seattle WA

92 posts in this topic

The Seattle comicon is coming in April. I enjoy this comicon because it is close to my home town so I can actually attend. My wife also loves to go, so it is a nice weekend together doing one of my favorite hobbies. I'm very glad that it keeps getting bigger and drawing more artists and writers. It's also the one time of year I get my books graded.

This Seattle comicon is like a smaller version of Wondercon: diverse list of artists, inkers, writers, OA or charity auctions, vintage comics from CA dealers, :golfclap:etc. Nice restaurants and close to at least 3 Half Price bookstores. :hi:

Yes, we love to go down to the Pier and walk the old boardwalks and the see the shops. Pike street market is always a must, it has a very nice comic shop and maybe seafood markets. We normally get ivars and just enjoy our time out there.

Just saw the Emerald online guest list. It has expaned greatly and the quality of guest writers, artist, inkers, animation schools, vendors is equivalent to Wondercon now. Really looking forward to meeting Frank Cho, Ernie Chan, Tony deZuniga, Alex Nino, Stan Sakai again.

Seems to be Bob Storms High Grade Comics's 1st foray into Seattle, WA. His booth will be near Steve Sibra (ex-Rocket Comics). :golfclap:

If you've ever been to any previous ECCC, this one is even bigger. I'm friends with one of the organizers and it's in a different convention floor than last year's - much bigger room. I was a little disappointed that there were less dealers and more comic related stuff. On the up-side, the guest list is getting bigger and bigger. I can't wait.

I'm thinking of coming down. This won't be 90% manga right?

At max, 10% manga books and dvd's. Nice mix of quality comic dealers booths, toys, action figures, tremendous guest artist/inker list, some independent comics corporate displays, but I don't expect Marvel or DC to set up with mega-booths. Wide aisles so you don't have to bump into the knapsack full of freebie movie posters carried by sweaty fanboys. :blahblah:

OK sounds worth my while then. The pictures of the Phoenix Con got me a little worried.

Any ideas of things to do around the Con, such as shopping for the wife, historic sites... nice walks etc would also be much appreciated. I think my comic budget will depend on how happy the wife and kids are...

hi eddly,

For the family, I recommend a nice walk around Pike's Place Market and drop by Golden Age Collectibles, if you have time. There is a nice Asian Art Museum in the middle of a park also. I did not like the downtown Seattle Art Museum, as it is mostly new trend art, paintings, sculpture.

The convention center is about 9 blocks from downtown Macy's dept. store that always has 50-70% off on select clothing brands that you cannot get in Canada. Show customer service dept your passport to get extra discount card. :o

Else driving back north, stop by Tulalip Casino's deluxe quality :cloud9: buffet dinner and name brand (Nike, purses) outdoor mall at exit 200.

Was in Seattle 30 years ago for a wedding. I remember Pike's Place Market and Golden Age Collectibles, a very good LCS. Is there still a restaurant on the main floor with a huge selection of draft beer? :cloud9:

I don't drink beer :o so have more $$ for comics and OA. Here is a pic from April/07 Emerald con floor. They have since moved it to the downtown Seattle Convention Center where, unfortunatley, the parking costs more on a weekend.

Thanks for the info aardvark88!

Sounds like it will be fun. I love Macy's too, they have great deals. How many board members go to this one usually? It would be fun to have lunch or dinner.

No. From what I've seen it is mostly comics, with collectables, card gaming, some japanesse stuff, and a few tv show exhibitors. The vendors are mostly dominated by comics, and almost all of artist alley is comic book related. And by comics I mean DC, Marvel, Image, etc, not the manga stuff

edit: wouldn't have posted this except my comp didn't show the other posts answering your Question.

eddly,

For the last 2 years in Seattle, Borock represented Cgc and would set up a quick mini-Cgc lunch with the local Seattle, WA, northern CA, or Portland, OR dealers and various miscreants ... err, serious collectors (greggy from Canada). Now that Borock has a day job with Heritage, lunch or dinner expected to change?
