Thats a recreation of an old Houdini Trick.

When he had to escape from chains his wife woudl kiss him and pass him a key she hid in her mouth

Nope. Just black. Actually, I was her complexion when I was her age as well. Also, there are light-skinned relatives on my wife's side of the family.
