Just how much influence did the movies have on the huge price rise of AF15

It'll be pretty hard to quantify the relationship between one and the other. Looking at the original release of the first Spider-Man movie in 2002 and the GPA numbers, there seemed to be an initial rise in 2002, a plateau between 2003 and 2007 (Spider-Man 2 came out in 2004 and Spider-Man 3 in 2007) followed by a meteoric rise in 2008. The words "irrational exuberance" come to mind.

The movies added credence to Spidey's role as an INTERNATIONAL icon...made Spideymania acceptable to the general public. The loss of security in traditional investment avenues sent people looking for other options.Collectibles do well in times of economic difficulty....they make people feel good. A lot of people were looking for an excuse to justify their friendly neighborhood key....they now have one.People can look at it as an investment and an indulgence....perfect storm.GOD BLESS...

Google trends overlaid with price index blog.

Notice the correlation in frequency of searches, movie releases, and price elevation

(in anticipation of next movie release).

The movies also made it a more global phenomenon.

Increasing number of searches come from outside US

(there are plenty of deep pockets overseas, now that we are in a rut).
