is comic grading subjective?

Always have to check for surface indentations!

It's standard procedure. How can anyone grade a book without doing this? ????

Agreed Chris, I also turn the book upside down and view it at an angle, many times you see stuff that simply does not show up when viewed normally

It amazes me how some of those guys in the march grading contest get so close to the grades just from a picture and from not handling the book itself.

I know. Not even a lick test for acidity. Amazing!

Let's grade a random book together..... :)

STEP 1 - Remove comic from bag :insane:

STEP 2 - Scan the front & back cover at 120%

STEP 3 - Look over the scans & make note of any/all visible defects

STEP 4 - Check the book at an angle under the light to identify any/all surface impressions

Hmmm, taste - pure virgin pulp

Hmmm, smell - whiff of treated wood refinded down to paper

Hmmm, visual - appears to have printing on it

Is this a comic in 9.4/9.6 grade?

Yeah but those guys are doing it with a back and front cover picture that is in a cgc slab. Also not as high quality scan either.

I was thinking 9.4 because of that bad edge.

Color-breaking spine stress on the back cover

Stacking curl

Rough bottom edge on the back cover

IMO - This book is 8.5/9.0

Is that what you told the eBay seller when you received it? :insane:

Just a random book I have multiples of.

What grade would you assign it?
