If you could change one thing about CGC what would it be?

I was going to say, "lower the minimum number of books required on pre-screens (from 50 to 30)", but I have long been wanting online grading notes, too. If it'd require me to renew my paid membership again next year just to have that feature, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

The pricing. It's just too damn high.

Honestly? I think we get off easy. For the service they offer, it's well worth it.

Actually, the escalating scale of pricing for book value is ridiculous. It costs zero more to grade and encapsulate an Action #1 than it does a Spawn #1, assuming that they actually do a restoration check on Moderns. Certainly no more than it does for a Hulk #154.

Have submission slips that allow for 50 books on one slip.

Right now to send in 50 book (not using the on-line form that takes forever to fill out) you have to use 4 forms. When they get the 4 forms and books they process them at different times. I have had books from the same submission sit at scheduled for grading while others have been shipped safe.

Dale, they do resto check moderns as I've seen them in purple labels.

Also, it does cost more to insure a $100,000 comic than it does a $100 comic.

I'm ok with the slabbing costs. Why shouldn't they get a piece of the pie?

There is no doubt in my mind that I am a HUGE proponent of CGC, one could even say I love CGC....BUT

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT CGC WHAT WOULD IT BE??

Like Casinos they should have levels for individuals and levels for dealers.

Ruby

Gold

Platinum

Titanium

Each would have different benefits. Your level would be noted next to you name on the chat boards. That would really be cool.

All based on comics graded since inception. Reward your best customers Then you get free coupons, starbuck cards, free signed comics, restaurants the list could go on and on. Have promotions which in regards to ideas are endless. Any thing that makes a human feel good is good for business. Whether you have had 10 books graded or 10000 CGC doesn't do anything special. No offense to Steve but he is a grader not a Customer Relationship Guru. Maybe things will change with the new leadership. Other than that they are a great company and the people who answer the phone are the best in the country.

Graders' notes on line for all to view.

(worship)

Let me repeat it for posterity.

Graders' notes on line for all to view.

That would be nice....but even the hotmail servers couldn't handle the traffic. GOD BLESS...

Bring back the 20 and 30% off coupons!!!!

I used to send in a lot of books for grading. Since they chopped everybody down to only 10% off across the board, I have only sent in my 3 free books with coupon each year.

I still have lot of books to grade, but most of the time it is cheaper to buy already graded books.

Oh, and offering different return shipping options would be great.

I can send them my books for $11.00.

But I have only one expensive option to get them sent back.

No offense Jimbo, but our little corner of the internet (comic collectors) is so minimal compared to regular internet traffic, it's not even funny. I know people who, for example, run webcomics that get tens of thousands of unique pageviews every week, and their bandwidth bill isn't that bad. It's less than paying someone to work 8 bucks an hour, 40 hours/week...and that's the basis of my proposition. How much time and manpower is wasted physically answering phone calls every day about graders' notes at CGC?

All I'd want in graders' notes is plain text. No bandwidth-sucking graphics needed. Hell, they could MAKE money on it if it was ad-supported, but I hope they wouldn't go that route. Places like bash.org survive just fine on donations with NO ads, because text-based content costs almost nothing to host. The days of bandwidth costing a lot of scratch are over, and I feel CGC would SAVE money by getting graders' notes online. As r1970d mentioned, it throws a spanner in many peoples' gears when they have to stop what they're doing to address graders' notes.

I daresay having the notes online would give the fine people at CGC time to do their jobs uninterrupted, and maybe even speed up turnaround times.

I know some people are going to jump on me for this but..You know what I'd really like? for CGC to have a totally seperate label, like a white label, for NO grade comics, for beaters, for already unverified signed comics, for comics with "imperfections" that we really don't care about, no grade, just for them to be slabbed, these would be the cheapest comics to slab..just the name of the comic, creative team and ..that's it!! The green labels are just awful man, the just not good enough label kills me..sometimes I just want to slab a comic w/o everything that goes with the grade...

Sometimes I wish I had slabbed comics by that one "third grading" company that dissappeared. They had that service..just that the company wasn't able to take off..

No grade? No resto check? Why not just mylar them with microchamber paper and save yourself the money? I'm not being a smartass, I'm honestly wondering why anyone would want to do this.

Maybe they could just do a "Slab it yourself"?... Send you a blank slab and put whatever you want in it rather than you sending the book there for no reason

Decline to re-grade books they absolutely know were previously graded unless restoration or removal of restoration occurred. There is no reason why a book submitted on Day X should be graded or have its PQ change on Day Y.

The existence of this re-sub process is contributing to the destruction of historical pedigree books. And I am mostly referring to GA books.

I would like them to invent an image scanning software program that would allow you to scan your book at home and then it would assign it a grade so anytime you needed an instant CGC grade for your book you would use that and then it would never need to be slabbed. :acclaim:
