Stoner did some interesting work for Popular and The Funnies. I like the Gang Busters cover. The Phantasmo cover reminds me of Fantastic 4 I think.

Oops, that should have said Fantastic 5 which I never thought looked like a Fine cover.

Stoner's art and his background reminds me of Pippin's. Horace Pippin started painting after serving in WWI and losing an arm.

His style was considered surrealistic. Or ethnic American folk art.

I have a copy of one of his paintings over the fireplace where I live in Orange County.

Strangely enough, Horace grew up in Orange County and moved to West Chester, PA, where I lived for over 20 years.

I didn't hear as much about him as I did Andrew Wyeth.

There are still a lot of red fox in Orange County but they no longer have segregated schools.

I think I over edited the comments above. Pippin's arm was paralyzed but he used his other arm to control the motions of the brush that was held in the hand of the injured arm. Sounds tough to me.

And while I am on the subject, there were a few other well known black artists that did comics.

Matt Baker, of course, and A. C. Hollingsworth are better known than Stoner

but they also seemed to have been key targets for Wertham.

I noticed Allen Ulmer was given credit for this Blue Beetle art but it looks like Quinlan to me. Anyone else think so? There were a lot of Blue Beetle artists and it is easy to be confused.

This one was a little more obvious.

2322276875_c3a1e2299e_b.jpg

Ramona did this cover cause it is signed at the bottom.

2692886075_de8dafd75d_o.jpg

I think I missed the boat on that splash page. It may be Pat instead of Ulmer but probably not Quinlan.

Quinlan did sign his work better than anyone else in the business. Kane and Shuster signed a lot of stuff that they didn't do but you can tell Quinlan's style like Palais who signed most of his stuff too.

Since my recreation thread has been lost in the archives,

I will load this up here. The only relationship between Blue Beetle and Mr. Justice that I can think of is the similar headgear.

But still digging to find out more information about BB artists.

Cooper didn't do any work for Fox that I can think of and neither did Montana but what about the rest?

Does anyone have any art to post? Was there an Ashe cover recreation in one of the threads.

I don't think he did these but they were too good to pass by.

Anymore Hollingsworth covers out there?

We can be penpals. Post away.
